"Another new mom and dad, another school Another house that'll never be home"
Lisa's POV
As we pulled up to the house, she grabbed my hand. I shifted my brown eyes meeting a mirror pair filled with fear. "it's okay ladybug" I smiled softly tucking a loose brown curl behind her ear. "no matter what happens we will always have each other" I whispered as our social worker killed the engine.
"promise moose?" Lauren held out her pinkie. I quickly wrapped mine around hers.
"I promise" I gave her a soft smile hoping to sooth some of her fear.
"Okay girls we are here" Our social worker said turning to face us. "now girls don't worry this is a really nice family" I couldn't help but roll my eyes seeing the blue cast on my little sister's arm that was from the last nice family. I pushed open the car door slipping out. The moment Lauren got she clung to my side.
"remember don't talk unless they talk to you" I whispered taking her good hand in mine. She nodded her head as we walked to the front door of the large house. The door opened revealing a woman with a warm smile.
"Hello, girls please come in" she said moving aside letting us in like we had a choice to come in. Lauren stepped behind me when the sound of footsteps took over the house. "its okay Sweetie" the woman bent down. "that just my kids they just sound like a herd of elephants" she laughed softly, standing back up. Kids how many does she have? "your name is Lauren, right?"
"yes ma'am" Lauren nodded peeking out to make eye contact with her like we learned the hard way.
"Please call me Lynne" Lynne offered her a smile. "how about you and Lisa go into the kitchen to get a snack while I talk to Ms. Janet?" her blue eyes flickered between the two of us as she pointed to the kitchen.
"yes Ma'am" I nodded leading Lauren to the kitchen.
"hey" a male voice filled the room making Lauren jump behind me. "sorry I didn't mean to scare you"
"it's okay Ladybug" I wrapped my arm around her shoulder keeping her close to me.
"I'm Mike Jr" he held out his hand for me. "what are your names?"
"I am Lisa" I shook his hand keeping Lauren tucked in my side. "and this is Lauren" I met his stare for a moment before shifting them down to Lauren.
"Hello" Lauren whispered trying not to show how scared she really was. "Can I have some water please?" she asked the boy who looks a few years older than me.
"yeah" he nodded walking over to the fridge. "in this house you don't have to ask for food or drinks" he grabbed a bottle out. He walked back over holding the bottle out for her making sure to keep a distance from her.
"Thank you" she said taking the bottle from him. "Moose can you open it?" she looks up at me. I nod taking the bottle from her. I opened it handing it back to her. She takes a small sip and holds it out for me.
"I am fine you drink it" I smile softly smoothing out her curls. The sound of footsteps on the stairs again makes her flinch. "it's okay Bug I got you" I reinsure her. A little girl who looks close to Lauren age comes bouncing down the steps.
"who are you?" she asked smiling as her green eyes lock on Lauren. "do you want to play? my name is Dani" she says not giving Lauren a chance to answer her first question.
"La-" Lauren opens her mouth only for Dani to cut her off.
"I like you cast its so cool" Dani reached out to touch it.
"Danielle" Lynne's voice fills the room. "remember what I told you" she shook her head. Lauren eyes darted around the room as her breathing changed.
