CHRISTIE'S POV
I carefully put on my jacket, which covered so many of the scars I had received while serving in the military. I looked at the time, and I hoped that Luke Hobbs, my boyfriend, didn't get off early today. I needed to speak to him, even though just saying how I felt about things always seemed like it was a second job at times.
I grabbed my phone, car keys, and weapon, just in case someone else tried to rob me. People were crazy, and I knew that from experience. I carefully got into my car and drove to Hobbs' job. Once I was able to get past security and talk to those that knew me, I headed up to Hobbs' office.I knocked on the door, and he motioned for me to come inside.
I opened the door, and he chuckled saying,"Always a pleasure to see you, darling. What can I do for you today?"
I closed the door behind me and sat down in the chair that was placed in front of his desk.
I said,"I want to have a conversation with you about why I said "no" to you when you proposed to me last week."
Luke leaned back in his chair and put his hands in his lap saying,"Christie, you don't have to explain anything to me. I'll admit, it did hurt to hear you say no, but I'm not going to make you feel bad about it. I love you, and I don't want to lose you. You've been through a lot over the years, and I've learned to just give you time to come around."
I smiled at Luke, before I leaned forward and held out my hands. He seemed very surprised, yet he put his hands in my own.
I said to him,"I trust you, Luke Hobbs. I didn't say yes, because I'm afraid of being abandoned. Hobbs, I've lost a lot of friends over the years, and I don't want to lose you. You're more important to me than traveling, reading, teaching, or even playing video games. I love all of those things..."
He laughed, before I squeezed his hands saying,"You're more than just a mission or assignment to me. I love you, too, Hobbs, and I don't want to let my fears hold me back anymore. I can't keep being afraid of what hasn't happened yet, baby. I can't, so do you have the ring with you?"
Luke's eyes widened, yet I don't think I've ever seen him get up from his desk so quickly. He walked over to me and pulled out the box, which just happened to be in his pocket.
Luke said,"You know I have to be prepared, Christie."
I laughed, before Luke said,"Christie Isabella Valentine, I have known you for so long that I have lost count of how many years it's been. It's been a long time, woman. We've only been dating for three years now, but it's been the best three years of my life. Even on my worst days, you manage to help me get through them and solve whatever the issue may be. I know that you'll be an amazing wife and an amazing mother, and I'll never abandon you. You have my word. So, Christine Isabella Valentine, will you marry me?"
Luke got down on one knee, and I saw the ring a second time. I thought it was amazing the first time I saw it, but that thought was no different than it was the first time.
Through my tears, I nodded and said,"Yes, Luke Hobbs, I'll marry you."
He smiled and carefully held the ring in between his fingers, before he slid the ring onto my finger. He immediately pulled me in for a kiss, and I didn't hesitate to kiss back.
We heard cheering, and we both turned to see many of Luke's colleagues standing outside of his office, watching and cheering for us.Luke pulled me in for a hug and said,"Don't you worry, Christie. I'll scare them away after I'm done hugging you."
