Chapter 24 - Finding M

Maya's POV
Time skip, airport

"I'm gonna kill her, I swear it," Lucas growled, angrily dragging his suitcase through airport security . "Me too," I laughed, following behind him. We arrived at our boarding area and checked in before sitting down, kids on one side and Topenga on the other. "I'm so tired," Farkle yawned, laying his head on Lucas's shoulder. "Oh my god," I joked, "get a room." Lucas rolled his eyes before scrolling through his phone.

"What time is it?" I said droopy-eyed. I swear to God we've been here for hours. "3:59." Lucas said. "Ugh," I groaned. I'm so fucking tired. "Flight E22 is now boarding!" A voice said overhead. "Thank god!" I breathed. The group stood up and got in line, and waited until we got to the front. The lady scanned our tickets, but ushered us to the side. She continued scanning the tickets until the last person took off down the tunnel.

"Is there a reason you stopped us ma'am?" Topenga asked angrily. "You're flight has been upgraded due to your situation. This man," she said, gesturing to the guard behind her, "will take you to your aircraft." I looked to Lucas and Farkle, and both boys shrugged contently. "Right this way," the man grunted.

He led us throughout the airport until we arrived at a small door. "Enjoy your flight. Good luck, we'll be right behind you." He pulled open the door and beckoned us through, Topenga leading the way. We reached the end of the tunnel and stepped over the gap between the bridge and plane. We filed through and took our seats. "Please strap in and we will be to Maine within the hour." We obeyed the directions, then the man entered the cockpit and closed the door. I looked to my left, finding Topenga fidgeting with her fingers nervously. "Hey," I said, placing my hand on her wrist, "It'll be okay. We'll get her." "Thanks Maya." she sighed. "I really miss her, but we gotta do this. For her." She flashed me a small smile before turning to look out the window.

The airplane roared to life before pulling forward onto the runaway. "We are now taking off. Please fasten your seatbelts and enjoy your flight with G. Enterprises." A voice said over the intercom. The plane rolled forward, speeding down the runway, then leaning upwards and lifting off. I sighed tiredly then leaned my head to the side, but it fell. Oh. I can't believe I'm still doing that. I know. I really miss you. I know. Why the short responses? Cause I'm trying to make you mad. Honey, I could never be mad at you. Yeah, because I'm dead. I scoffed, then rolled my eyes before pulling out my phone.

As I absentmindedly scrolled through Instagram, I can across an old post of Riley's. It was a photo of us at the park, holding each other's hands. I can't believe I'm actually dating this idiot. The caption said. I felt a tear run down my cheek as I scrolled through the photos. I miss that. I sniffled before scrolling down through the comments. Aw! You guys are perfect for each other! So happy for you! Knew it! But one comment towards the bottom caught my eye. Good riddance. "You've gotta be fucking kidding me," I growled to myself. "Hm?" Farkle asked as he stuck his head over the chair. "Look at this," I said, shoving the phone toward him. He grabbed it and squinted at the screen. "Why am I not surprised," he muttered, leaning back into his chair. "Babe," I heard Lucas whine. I looked to Topenga and we both snickered. They're so cute together. I know right! I wish we could be like that. I know. I miss you Peaches. I miss you more. I heaved a deep sigh, then placed my phone down in the seat next to me.

"Ladies and gentlemen, we have arrived at our destination, please make sure you take all items from the overhead. Once again, thank you for flying with G enterprises." The plane roared to a stop and we stood from our seats. The man from before stepped out of the cockpit and stood at the front. "Good luck guys. I will be right behind you." "Thank you so much," Topenga said. He nodded to her, then we grabbed our bags and exited the plane.

3rd person POV
As they exited the plane, Farkle fell behind. He was distracted by his round of fruit ninja, tripping over a bump. "Ow!" he groaned, pulling himself off the ground. He rubbed his head before getting back to his game. "You alright?" Lucas asked, turning to face him. "Yeah," he said, "just tripped." He raised an eyebrow suspiciously but turned back around to follow the others. Game over. "Damn it." he spat. "It's just Fruit Ninja dude, chill out," Maya laughed. Farkle rolled his eyes before shoving his phone into his pocket. "Alright kids, bathroom break," Topenga said, stopping in front of the restrooms. "I'm good," Lucas said. "I'll be back, 'Kay?" Farkle told Lucas. He nodded, then Farkle started into the bathroom. Empty. That's odd. He shook his head before entering a stall.

After doing his business, he let out a deep yawn before exiting the stall and walking towards the sink. He turned the handle, and let the water flow over his hands. "So, you're here because of her?" a voice said behind him. He turned to find a tall, muscular man standing behind him, arms crossed. "Yeah," Farkle said, squinting at him. "That sucks. She doesn't pay well." "What do you mean-" Farkle started. The man pulled a rag from his pocket and pressed it against his mouth. He struggled against his grasp, but he wasn't strong enough. His eyes went dark and he slumped to the floor. "Sorry kid."
