Eve-Anne sat outside, layered in coats and scarfs, and still shivering as snow gently sprinkled over her hood.
She pulled the screwdriver from between her teeth and unscrewed the electric box.
"Need help?" A voice said from a far bit away, shouting over the wind. The accent was a bit faded Scottish.
"Uncle Ellis?" She said, as she turned her head slightly. "I think I'm fine."
The box sparked a little, and Eve-Anne moved her arm to cover her face.
Ellis looked down at the box.
"Isn't the weather a bit bad to be doing this?" He asked, and Eve-Anne pulled another sheet out of the way of the wires.
"Elena's scared of the dark."
Ellis pushed Eve-Anne out of the way.
"Leave it for tonight, and call an electrician when the snow gets better."
Eve-Anne sighed, and nodded.
The two headed inside, leaving tracks in the deep snow.
The hallway was thrust into more darkness as the slight light from outside was cut off by the door.
The second Eve-Anne took her coat off, a pair of small arms wrapped around her leg.
"Uncle Ellis is here." Eve-Anne practically murmured, fighting the urge to kick the child away.
Elena was pulled away, and Ellis pulled her up.
"You've grown a lot. Do you still have Mr Monkey?" He asked.
Eve-Anne looked away for a bit, fixing up her bandage a little. She looked back, and they were in the living room.
Jessica sat on the sofa, the screen reflected off of her face, and she ignored the seemingly pop up tent in the middle of the room.
"Jessica! Come on." Elena yelled, popping her head around the tent.
"Busy." She said, her eyes still glued to the screen.
"You're not busy. I want to play!" Elena whined.
Eve-Anne scowled a little. How could Uncle Ellis do everything better than her just as he walked in the house, rather she had been trying for ages?
Jessica ignored Elena, opting to just smother her phone in her fingers tapping.
"What happened here?" Eve-Anne said, raising an eyebrow.
"Jessica won't play with us!" Elena said.
"She's texting her boyfriend." Eve-Anne joked, but with a neutral and serious tone.
"No, I'm not." Jessica retorted, her face going slightly red within the different colours of light hitting her face. She ran her hand through her hair, and then shoved it into the pocket of her coat awkwardly.
"Sure. Why don't you go play with Elena then?" She replied, crossing her arms and leaning against the wall, arching her back slightly to avoid leaning on the dado rail.
"Why don't you?"
"I have homework to do."
Jessica groaned, and stood up, a bit annoyed. Her coat fell down to her knees. It was massive on her. It must have belonged to a giant before finding its way into Jessica's hands.
"Fine." She murmured, switched her phone off, and dropped it into the deep pocket of her coat.
Eve-Anne turned, and kicked her boots off at the door.
"Oh, Eve-Anne?" Ellis called out. "I'm moving in to be the adult in the house."
Something struck Eve-Anne like a moving train. Maybe it was annoyance, or fear, but it wasn't good no matter what it was.
She'd reached the landing at the top of the stairs, and entered her room.
She sat at her desk, and laid her head on the table in slight desperation.
She had no homework to do, she'd finished all of it before the holidays had even started.
Eve-Anne turned on her phone, and tapped the yellow and red icon in the task bar.
She pressed the settings, and pulled on incognito mode, stopping to check for a moment if her VPN was on before, and began her search.
K was very elusive, search after search came up with nothing, except one thing. A small section, on a blog hidden deep on the Web had a loose mention and a link.
'The one who protects, and the one who creates. The one guardian, and the one thinker. All shall come clear in the coming days, months or years when the doomsday falls upon us all. Far, our Lord, and K, our Angel of Justice.'
Eve-Anne nearly cringed at the wording of the poem, but clicked the link hesitantly.
A black page popped up over the blog, with a fancy white writing and a symbol of sorts in the middle of the page.
'Cult of Far'
Bit weird. She thought.
She scrolled down a little. Pictures graced her screen, some of strange pedestals and jewelery. One stuck out to her though, a grotesque picture of a man sprawled out over the floor. The text under it read many obscenities and insults, with the exception of one which was more of a threat to others who betray their deities.
This was one odd Cult, what with the worship of detectives, and even more to hide on the Internet with every chance of discovery by authorities.
That was even more dangerous with a dead person on it. Although, there was a knife discarded, what seemed hastily, on the side. That could suggest an accident.
Perhaps.
