Eve-Anne had been left in that empty room for around fifteen minutes now, occasionally tapping the glass of water in front of her, creating ripples, and trying to cure her boredom.
"Sorry for the wait." K said, quietly opening the door to the floral painted room. "Just had to finish a call."
He paused, and gave a slightly crooked smile.
"How are you today?" He spoke with a soft voice, as he slid into the cushioned chair opposite Eve-Anne.
"Not bad." She hesitated a little, "I like your wallpaper, by the way." She partly mocked.
"It wasn't my choice."
K put some multicoloured files on the table, and opened one, revealing an older case file.
"Do you recognise this picture?" He waved it a little, before passing it over to the other.
"No." Eve-Anne fought a stutter, shifting her line of sight away to the nearby window.
"Are you sure?" That wicked grin flickered back onto his face, and looked into the mirror.Behind that mirror sat the two other members of the force, M and Far, watching the interview, crossed arms, while the latter snacked on some goopy banana pancakes.
"What's wrong?" Far asked, leaving his pancakes for one second to look at his boss with a glimmer in his eyes.
M sighed, "He's going against his word… again."
Far tilted his head a little.
"By bringing that case in."The light flickered, as Eve-Anne ran her hand anxiously over the back of her neck.
"I can't remember." She shrugged. That was a lie, and they both knew it. He wasn't stupid.
"This was your dog, Eve-Anne, it's name was Scruffy, wasn't it?" K pushed the file further into Eve-Anne's face.
The lights flickered some more, and even swayed a little as Eve-Anne tried to get a hold of herself. That file was meant to be gone. She'd made sure of that.
Eve-Anne nodded.
K flipped the page in the folder. It was another picture, this time of Hayden.
"On the same day, your adoptive brother, Hayden, was hospitalised with injuries put down to an attack with some sort of bat."
K's little grin grew bigger with each passing second. He sat up straight in his chair, with an air of wickedness surrounding him.
"Can you tell me what's wrong with that?"
Eve-Anne thought for a second, pinching her neck as she tried harder to stop her abilities from spiralling out of control again.
"The injuries aren't consistent with a bat attack." K continued. "The bruising around the neck suggests strangulation, and the ways the ribs were broken means he was thrown against something."
Eve-Anne nodded again, this time slower.
"What are you hinting at, detective?" She said, a little waver in her otherwise, hopefully, strong voice.
"Just a theory.""I'm stopping this." M said, pushing himself out of his seat forcefully.
"No, I don't think you will." Far said. There was a change in his normally upbeat voice, it was somehow dark and cold. He pushed M back into his chair lightly.
"What do you think you're doing?" He retorted, biting his tongue slightly, as he swiped his grey hair out of his way.
"You need to trust me." Was Far's response, as he sunk back into his chair and watched everything unfold from the one way mirror."I don't like where your theory is going." Eve-Anne muttered, crossing her arms and leaning on the wooden table.
"You haven't heard it all yet." K began again, "What's this?"
He pulled out a sheet of paper with a signature at the bottom. It was Susanna's.
"A record." Eve-Anne looked over to K, to which he raised an eyebrow. "My mum used to keep records of everything that happened."
"Yeah, so she says." He pointed to a specific line about half way through the page.
"The week after the attack on Hayden you were admitted to Blackthorne's children's ward for an unknown reason."
Eve-Anne looked back up, everything seemed to crumble around her as her hands lightly shook, and she ran her fingers over her mouth, but she had one last card to her name.
"You know a lot about me." She said, an empty expression on her face, "But I've also done my digging."
K raised his eyebrow again.
"November 5th." She paused to add dramatic effect. "2015."Far leant forward on the hard wooden desk, as he ran his hand over his chin.
"What's that mean?" M questioned. He sipped some tea, and looked back at the folder he'd fished out from a filing cabinet.
"Who knows." Far grinned. He ran his eyes over the file next to him, and pulled a cluttered note page from it.
"I was right!" Far giggled.
"What does that date mean, Far?" M asked again, with more warning than the last time.
"I don't have a…" He sang a little, "clue."
M frowned.
"Give me that page back." He snapped as he pulled the page back. Something confused him though, that page wasn't in English.
Both of their trains of thought were broken, though, when a loud crash happened from behind the mirror.
"What did he say?" M muttered, as he stood up and ran to the door with Far.Eve-Anne pushed her hand out, sending the table flying at K, plastering him against the wall. He groaned, and tried to pull the table out of his way.
Eve-Anne smashed the window with a slight wave of her hand, and jumped lightly onto the soft snow. She bolted down a street not too far away, nearly slipping on the slippery path.M tugged at the door to no avail. They were stuck, and by the looks of it, so was K.
He looked to Far, who stood against the far wall. He used his arms to push himself off it and jumped at the window, using his shoulder to ram through it.
"K!" He yelled, as the glass trickled around him. He ran over like a little dog, and pulled the table away with M's help.
"What are you waiting for? Get her!" K yelled at Far, who spun and hopped over the open window.
