The light curved round the thin windows, hitting Eve-Anne in the face. She winced, and tried to keep her eyes shut. Her head fell back a little.
"What is it?" She murmured like a child whose parent was trying to get them out of bed.
She opened her eyes, and shut them again, the sun drilling into her brain burned her eyes.
She opened them again. In front of her stood a 20 year oldish woman, with dark brown hair and pale skin. She was tall and was slightly muscular, not a lot but enough to see through her sleeves.
"Look who's finally awake." She said, as she approached her slowly. "I'm not going to waste time with introductions."
There was a pause, as she looked over the thugs surrounding her.
The only thing they were thinking about was how much they'd get paid.
"What do you want?" Eve-Anne said, one hand was zip tied to the back of the chair, it felt somewhat familiar. Her head felt a little empty, she couldn't do anything except find the basic thoughts of some of the thugs.
"The other day I was tracking an energy phenomena down to your house. Now, both of your sisters were sleeping, and your mother was putting the boy to sleep, and I see an Esier." She spoke casually and in an informal manner, "Care to share?"
Eve-Anne looked around a little.
"What's that to do with me?" Eve-Anne shrugged.
"You should be nicer to your kidnappers."
"I know." She responded.
The lady took a necklace from her pocket.
"That Esier was Hadariel, one of the broken trio, what did she want?" She walked closer, the necklaces details became clearer now. It was a symbol. It was unrecognisable.
"Nothing really." Eve-Anne shrugged her shoulders again, and rolled her eyes.
"Don't lie to me."
"I would never." She said sarcastically.
The woman put the necklace back into her pocket.
"Well, I might be nice. But these guys… Aren't like me." She turned and went to leave, but actually just leant on the wall.
"What do you know about Susanna and Daniel Corley's dealings?" He was more scary and intimidating.
The pair must have made a deal.
"I must be popular today." Eve-Anne muttered.
The thug picked up something from the table, something sharp and rusty.
"What are you going to do?" Eve-Anne questioned, anxiety starting to build. She was blocked from her powers, she couldn't reach out, she couldn't manipulate him. She was trapped.
Her head started pounding, and her stomach turned to butterflies. She squeezed her eyes shut. It seemed like forever, but the cars outside, the rush of winds hitting the trees, the screeching of birds fighting had stopped leaving Eve-Anne in nothing but silence.
She carefully opened a single eye, then another. She was standing, the lights around her flickered and swung dangerously, almost like a hurricane had invaded the building.
It had black and white tiles for the floor, and white paint on the wall, they were dirty, filthy more like, and a liquid flowed down one of the cracks smoothly.
Eve-Anne stared, maybe this was just a dream after all?
But no, this was real, it had to be real.
"Evie, we have to go, now!" A child's voice said, full of worry.
It was unmistakable, it had to be Jessica.
Eve-Anne looked down, scanning her clothes up and down. There was blood everywhere.
"Please Evie." Jessica grabbed her arm and pulled her. "Please."
Eve-Anne was pulled along by Jessica.
It almost felt like a movie, but first person.
She tried to say something, but nothing came out. She wasn't in control, not even like a video game.
The further they went, the smaller the corridors became, and the more darkness enveloped them.
"They're coming." Eve-Anne said, a slight emptiness in her younger voice.
She felt confused, it wasn't her there.
"Please.. Don't hurt anyone else." Jessica said, quietly and slowly.
"I didn't want to." She pulled Jessica around and held her arm a little. "But I had to." She shrugged her shoulders.
"Why don't you care?" Jessica responded, as they started walking again.
"They don't care about us, so I won't care about them." Eve-Anne stopped, and pulled them both into an empty room, empty except the trail of blood smeared all over the floor followed by the body of a scientist and his amputated leg, well it was more ripped then amputated.
Jessica turned away, she looked as if she was going to be sick. She sniffled a little.
"I'm sorry. I couldn't let them hurt your or me anymore." Eve-Anne laid her hand on her sister's shoulder. She tried to swat it away, but she just didn't have the energy.
Eve-Anne spun around, and not a second later the door swung open. There stood an armed man with a bullet proof vest on, then another.
" Police Hands--" He stopped speaking and looked around the room, slightly confused.
"S'just some kids, and another body." He said as more officers piled into the room.
"DS Corley, s'more kids here." He half yelled.
"Ach, Aye." A woman responded as she pushed her way through the crowd of armed police.
"They're barely even bairns." The woman half cooed like she was looking at a zoo of babies.
"I'm seven, nearly 8." Eve-Anne responded, her whole attitude changing in an instance. She sounded slightly annoyed.
"What about this one?" She pointed to Jessica, and kneeled down a little. For a seven year old, she was quite tall.
"I'm at least 6 minutes older." Eve-Anne didn't even hesitate at the number, but Jessica growled slightly and turned away from the wall.
"Oh, and who're you?" She asked, to which Jessica looked down and muttered something.
"DS, we've got something." Another officer said, as the DS took some gloves out of her thick, blue jackets pocket.
She took it, and flicked through the pages.
A knot formed in Eve-Anne's stomach. She knew what that file was. She could hear everything, see everything. She forgot, she couldn't believe she forgot.
The place around her vanished into dust, and she was back in the slight blackness with the light attacking her eyes.
