I woke up it was 5 o' clock again. No more coffee. I hated my job, I didn't see why I should have gone but I did. I had to explain things to Diana. Somehow I'd make her understand that war is not the answer, that bloodshed wouldn't make you any better than what you were fighting against. I stopped by the ally way where she'd shot Nathan down. The office buzz had drowned down, it was Friday or Thursday I didn't remember. I didn't care anymore.
I had to save Amber, if that killed me than so be it, I'd get her home. Safe.
"Hey handsome." Diana seemed to be the only one cheery. "I've been thinking about the other day, I know that was a little harsh, but their growing an army." I didn't turn around. I just continued on with the blog. I wrote back to all my letters and went to the coffee room. I had dozens of letters.
Dear Average Jo Aaron,
I'm nineteen and I just found out that my father was a vampire. I kinda freaked out when I saw him biting on my mother's neck. The blood trickled down his mouth. He told me that it was time to choose. If I wanted to be human and kill him or become a vampire. I don't want to kill anyone, I don't want to have to chose. I was hoping you could tell me why this war was going on, and if you knew how it could be stopped, I don't want to lose my family.
Sincerely Half-Blood Hannah
I read and reread that letter, how was I supposed to convince Diana this was wrong. Guilty, I felt so damn guilty. I didn't know how to stop it.
She wasn't a woman who faltered. When she was on a role she kept on rolling. "Bye Diana." I took off, I decided to work from home. I'd be able to concentrate instead of having the urge to go back to the file cabinet and screw her until it hurt. I couldn't do that.
"Oh Aaron, bye. Try and not get killed okay." I waved the comment off, she was sick and twisted but she had her reasons.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I got home and called for my buddy, "Roger come here buddy." That damn dog was alseep, what did he do all day. Nothing absolutely nothing. "Ungrateful dog." I went to the kitchen, only to find out I'd been at work for only three hours. I could work from home.
"Aaron, why are you back so early?" Her arms wrapped so delicately around my shoulders, her skin was iced against my clothing. "Did you talk to that hunter I can smell her all over you." I didn't know how to answer that.
"Ya, well I figured until I could figure out what to do." She walked over in my t-shirt, buttoned up low, and just above her ass. She wore purple underwear, the were lacy and dark. "Damn, looks awful out there." She smiled, I could feel her honey coated eyes searching me over.
The clouds were dark, the mountains rose around our city. The vampires were moving in, the hunters were preparing for the battle. "Babe you are the peace bringer. I know you don't know what you're supposed to do now, but thousands of years ago, you stopped a great war." I walked up to her and wrapped up my arms around her waist. She smelled like peaches and cinnamon. I didn't care about the war, or the outcome, I only cared that she was safe. That one day I'd be able to tell her that I was in love with her.
"Yea any way so, what is the plan? How do we get past the mountains?" I ran my fingers through my hair, why did I have to be different why couldn't I be normal and work in a boring office like my brothers.
"Ask me anything I've been around long enough to see it all happen." It worked, women, truly natures Plan A, but this woman was different this woman was going to get me killed.
"Tell me about the past me." She smiled again, it was like a heart attack with every smile, a heatwave in every kiss and when she touched me--my God. I hadn't been trying to find love, I was trying to prove my dad wrong, that I didn't need him. I didn't want to fall in love, I didn't want to commit. On my own I was a flake, with Roger I was an even bigger one, with Amber I felt like I wasn't a flake but I could really do something.
"Well it isn't a long story but it is kind of interesting. You come from a long line of half-bloods." I walked to the kitchen, I needed coffee, it was the only thing I wanted to be in love with, but she was that drink of my life. "Meaning that somewhere way back when you had a great x10 he had twins, one became a vampire the other a hunter, and the oldest or younger of his sons would be the balance. That is you--right?" At this point I was drained, I wanted my damned coffee and a doughnut. My head was leaned against the fridge door. She had started coffee, and continued. "Well so centuries past and here you are. You know your father was the non-chosen son, that's why he didn't want you to believe in that world." The fresh smell of life brewed through my coffee pot.
"So my dad? He knew and tried to keep it hidden? Bastard." It was a shame to not tell me.
"Yes so now you know, your great x10 grandfather was a skilled hunter and knew a thing or two about vampires. He was a great man. That is why I had to find you." The silent red light lit up and my life was restored. Coffee, it was my ignorance, keeping me bliss. I didn't need to know about the world, just how so much taste could be put in just a cup.
"Well I'm honored but how do I help you?" The door slammed open, Amber was on the counter and I was leaning against her, her long delicate hands running through my hair. I never felt this way about a woman before, I really believed I missed that day of class where they taught you about how get a girl. I sucked, but through His grace I met her.
We were in the mood, I could see it in her eyes. It was like after a while you kinda just get used to someones mannerisms.
"Lily is dying!" We ran to the door Randy laid Lily on the couch, she had blood running from her neck. She wasn't going to make it.
"Amber please save her!" Randy held Lily in his giant body, she looked so helpless like a child.
I stared at her, the only thing she could do was convert her to a vampire. "You won't like what I do, and not everyone can handle the pain." she sank down to Lily's side at the couch and sunk her teeth deep into her neck, Lily's eyes went wide then faded.
Hours went by before she woke up, we put her in the back room, her crying and screaming and clawing was worse than a lobster being boiled alive. We stared at the door until the crying stopped. Amber smiled and walked to the back room with an empty glass.
