"What do you mean you ran into a hunter?! In the middle of town?! What were you thinking, you could have been killed... and you brought Adora into this"?! Wesley leaned against the wall as his father's voice boomed through the room. His mother sat on the other side across from him sending him a look of disappointment.
"I told you I took care of it dad! Adora wasn't harmed and I was able to take him down. I don't see what the big deal is" Welsey said gruffly. He boiled his fist in anger. He didn't understand why his father was coming at him as if he had asked to be attacked by the hunter.
"The big deal is you could have gotten you and her killed! I thought you were more responsible than this! What were doing in that part of town anyway"?! His father's voice grew louder and his face turned red. He hadn't expected this sort of behavior from his son.
"Honey let's just calm down. Let Wesley have a chance to explain himself" his mother intervened. His father took a seat next to his mother as the room became quiet again.
"Adora and I we just went to hang out is all. I went with her to her appointment and then after that we decided to hang out. I took her to an abandoned field in town I... wasn't aware that hunters were still lurking. Everything happened so fast.... but neither me nor Adora were hurt" Wesley explained to his parents.
His parents looked at each other with worried faces. "Honey... I thought we told you... there is nothing to be going on with you and Adora... that was the deal" his mother said looking worried.
"How many times do you need to remind me? I know me and her can never be together, we were just catching up for old times sake" Wesley snapped. He was tired of hearing the same thing be repeated to him.
"Watch your tone! We let you come back because we thought that now that you are older you could handle things. But if this behavior continues we will not hesitate to send you back" his father threatened.
"Yeah well this time I won't go that easily. This is my life and I'm done being told how to live it"! Wesley stormed out the room already shifting into his beast. He could hear his mother calling for him to come back by he blocked her out.
He stormed down the silent street to the one person he knew he could lean on. Not having many friends he felt that it wasn't necessary. Adora was the only person he could trust, that was why he confided in her whenever he was going through something.
Meanwhile as the night grew colder Adora had stopped by Nuri's house to check up on Lila. Knocking on the door she was surprised to see a frazzled looking Nuri.
"Ok why do you look like you are about to piss your pants" I say stepping inside the house. Nuri immediately brings a finger to her lips.
"Shhh keep it down! I need your help, let's go down to the basement" Nuri says quickly walking down the hallway. I follow her down the dark steps expecting to see Lila but I'm puzzled to see it empty.
"Uhh Nuri.... where is Lila"? I turn to look at her but my stomach pummels when I see the nervous look on her face.
"Uh... well.... I went out for my annual swim... because you know us mermaids need our daily dip. Anyway I was gone for an hour tops and when I came back... she was gone"!
"What do you mean she's gone! How would she even be able to leave? I thought you keep the basement locked"? I anxiously start to pace back and forth.
"Welllll.... I may have forgotten to lock it on my way out. How was I supposed to know she would run away"? Nuri says with a sheepish shrug.
"Alright let's not freak out. Maybe... she just went for a midnight run... let's just wait" I take a seat on the sofa and Nuri plops down beside me.
"Umm it's been an hour and I've searched the entire house. My parents are starting to ask questions. We need to find her a different place to stay" Nuri concludes.
"I don't know a place where she can stay. Wesley will just have to tell his parents the truth. Oh and I didn't even tell you... we ran into a hunter today" I say as Nuri's eyes grow wide.
"Your joking! How were you guys able to get away"? I recount the event in my head, it was the first time I had ever encountered a real hunter.
"Wesley distracted him so I could run. It just made me realize how much I've been slacking in my training. I mean what if Wes had gotten seriously hurt" ?
"I'm just glad you got away safely. And I'm sure Wesley doesn't mind coming to your rescue it's so obvious he has a thing for you" Nuri says wiggling her eyebrows.
"Pfft yeah right. Wesley is like a brother to me...."
In the days that Wesley had come back we had become closer than ever before. But he couldn't possibly have feelings for me... it just wasn't possible.
Nuri rolls her eyes. "Whatever helps you sleep at night. Now come on we need to go find a wolf". We took off creeping out the back of her house towards the deep forest.
Hopefully Lila hadn't gone too far.
