Never Too Far

As soon as Wesley told me what to do I was on it. I looked through most of the books in his packs library. The term sounding familiar but not quite. I was halfway through each row of books and found little to nothing discussing the history of the hybrid breed.

Maybe it was because they weren't a well-known breed. From stories I've heard, there were none that truly existed and they were regarded as a myth. I was quite confused about why Wesley wanted me to do more research on them. Nonetheless, I would do what he asked as long as he was safe and finally home.

After an hour passed I decided to call it a day and go home. I took a few books with me that I would look over later. Making my way out I passed by some of the pack members who politely greeted me. I saw Lauren surrounded by a bunch of other pack members.

"Adora I'm surprised to see you here" she greeted once I was off the stairs. I felt the stares of the other pack members look me over.

"Well I'm here,"  I say with a shrug. I try maneuvering around them only for Lauren to stop me.

"We need to talk"

She pulled my arm roughly towards the back of the staircase. In truth, I was curious about what she had to say. Our friendship had long ended and so it felt weird to be in this sort of setting with her. She hadn't cared much that Nuri had passed nor was she aware of the seahorse Nuri.

"Some of the pack members were a little concerned about Wesley's.... absence". I raise a brow knowing exactly where this conversation is headed.

"Are you sure it's not you who's been asking about him? And why are you asking me I'm not the alpha" I quipped with a shrug of my shoulders.

She narrowed her eyes at me. "Don't play stupid Adora, it's obvious you and Wesley have a close relationship. If I find out you are hiding any information of his whereabouts I will let the alpha know"  she snapped clenching her fist.

"You do that" I shrug before successfully maneuvering around her to leave. I walk home carrying the book of hybrids close to my chest, only a few people knew where Wesley was. Ordered by the alpha he thought the fewer people that knew the better.

Getting others involved would cause more chaos not to mention I could still have a target on my back. The hunters would no doubt come looking for me which raised another question.

Why did they let me go? They basically gave up their chance to kill me right then and there. They had to have known I would come back and alert people. It confused me to the point where my head started to throb.

I got home and ran straight to my room. Setting the books on my bed I face planted on my bed with a tired sigh. A well-deserved nap was in order and so I gracefully embraced the darkness.

I appeared in a place of darkness. My body felt light and airy and was surrounded by a foggy glow. I stepped forward and looked around to find nothing but emptiness.

"Hello" I called my voice echoing throughout the large empty pit. "Is anyone there"? I asked cupping my hands around my mouth to shout louder. I had to be in a dream something that only happened when I was deep asleep.

These days sleep never came easy. I'd lie awake all night not that it was something I needed. Being a pureblooded vampire had its perks and so sleep wasn't something required. I finally heard the footsteps of another growing nearer.

They soon stopped and a light appeared. The figure appeared from the darkness to show a ghost-like Nuri. Her skin was a deathly pale with her dark locks contrasting against her complexion.

Tears filled her almond-shaped eyes as she outstretched her arms. "Come give me a hug" she choked and I nearly knocked her down embracing her. We cried for a while as she gently wiped my cheeks from my face.

"I- I miss you so much" I sobbed hugging her tighter. Even if it was all a dream I was happy to see her again. "This is all my fault... I should have protected you".

She shushed me gently. "You didn't know this would happen. I don't blame you so don't blame yourself, none of us should have seen this coming". We finally stopped crying and sat on the dark floor.

"How is this possible" I whispered still awestruck. These past months had been tough without my best friend beside me.

"Since you planted my scale in the water I needed time to conserve energy. Once I had enough strength I knew the only way I could talk to you was through your dreams".

The ghastly glow that surrounded her started to flicker. "You're about to wake up. We will talk again soon and be careful" she warned and just like that she was gone.
