The next few weeks went by pretty quickly. My dad had managed to interview quite a few guys for the job and he said he finally settled on one of the candidates. He would be starting tomorrow. Elizabeth would be coming home next week and I was getting really excited to see her. It had been way too long since she had been home and it was past due. Having her home would give us some since of normalcy. Not that I didn't enjoy my dad's company but I needed to have some girl time with my little sister. I was surrounded by men everyday besides the occasional times I got to hang out with Rachel. Sometimes I wished I could freeze time and go back to when we were one big happy family. You know before the accident took place. I was so naive and carefree. I didn't have to be a grown up with adult responsibilities. I could just be a carefree teenager looking to take on the whole wide world. Little did I know I would have to become a member of the working society much faster than anticipated. Don't get me wrong I love my job but sometimes I just wish I could live a carefree life full of traveling.
As I was sitting around contemplating all of the things I wish I could do in my life Ethan showed up at my house. He wanted me to go to a movies with him but I told him I was far too busy right now and he could see if Rachel was free. He said that he would wait for me to not be so busy and just to let him know. I don't know why he just couldn't seem to get the hint. I never lead in on in any sort of way and I couldn't seem to make him understand that I just wanted to be friends and nothing more. He just couldn't take a hint. Poor Rachel practically threw herself at him every chance she got but he seemed unfazed by her advances.
As I sat at the desk opposite dad helping with some paperwork I began to think about the new guy that dad had hired. I was hoping that he would be half as good as Larry was or we were going to be in some really big trouble. I was so exhausted from working longer hours and getting hardly any time to relax that I was ready for him to start right now. These long hours were really starting to catch up to me. I needed a break but I knew that would never be a possibility in the near future with business being so crazy. Don't get me wrong I loved the extra money I made but it would have been nice to have a break every once in a while.
When we were finished with the paperwork I walked into to the now empty shop since all the guys had left and just sat there for a moment wondering how different my life would have been if I had went to college. I don't think I would have been as happy at my job as I am here with all of these guys. I got up and started to straighten the place up a bit to help us get ready for the morning. Dad had the guys leave a little earlier tonight and it was still early enough for me to go and get a drink with Rachel at The Bar which was downtown. Yes it was called The Bar how original right. I was hoping we wouldn't run into Ethan since he wanted me to go to a movie and I had blown him off thinking I would be working really late tonight. I didn't like drama or hurting anyone's feelings.
Rachel came by the shop to pick me up and took me back home so I could shower and get ready real quick since I was a little grungy from a days work. I didn't normally wear any makeup but tonight I put a little on just to feel pretty. I felt like one of the guys all the time so it was nice to hang out with Rachel and just be one of the girls. She knew me more than anyone possibly could and she was truly the best friend a girl could ever wish for. We were so much alike that we were more like sisters than best friends.
When I got finished we got in the car and turned the radio on full blast screaming out hearts out to our favorite play list. When we arrived at The Bar we saw several old high school friends and hung out with them for a few hours it was nice to see some different faces and have conversations with people my own age. They didn't talk about achy backs and wife's and children. Don't get me wrong I loved the guys at the shop but it was like having 4 more dads on top of the one I already had. As the night was winding down I was so glad that we didn't have an Ethan sightings. He would have driven us crazy the whole night. Not to mention the hurt feelings he would have had for me blowing him off and then to top it off not inviting him to The Bar with me and Rachel.
Rachel headed for my house and we talked about everyone one we saw and how nice it was to get to hang out with old friends. She then pulled into my driveway and dropped me off with which I proceeded to head straight for the bathroom to wash my face off. I was so tired and ready for bed since it was getting late and I had to be up early for work the next morning. It would be another long day ahead of me tomorrow. I needed a mini vacation after this summer was over. I had a hard time winding down and just laid there thinking about my mom and how much I missed her. Tears started to steam down my face and eventually I fell asleep exhausted from everything going on and probably a little bit of sleep deprivation.
