*Author’s POV*
Priya was planted in her room, watching Ellen DeGeneres while eating popcorn. She laughed as she watched Ellen scare Taylor Swift, once again. Suddenly, her cell phone began to ring. Still with eyes glued to the screen, she picked up the phone and answered,
“It’s Priya” she casually spoke.
“Hey, it’s Jeremy.”
“Oh, hey. What’s up?”
“Not much, I just wanted to know how things with Jack today.” He said as he smiled through the phone.
“YOU. You set me up with him today and didn’t tell me.” She replied half-angrily through the phone.
He chuckled, “And you’re thankful, right?”
“Y-yeah…” she awkwardly replied.
“I thought so. You really like him, don’t you?”
“I do, a lot.” She said blushing
“You owe me one, got it? How do you feel about the fact that he likes you too?”
“I’m extremely happy…thank you.”
“No problem, but don’t get your hopes up. It’s only been a day and he’s broken up with most of his girlfriends within a week, or two weeks if she’s really hot.” He jokingly teased.
But Priya took it seriously, her heart dropped when she heard him, “R-really?” she depressingly said through the line.
“No! No! Don’t worry! I was just joking, I’m pretty sure that he won’t do that to you. It’s true that he’s done that to other girls, but they were different.” He reassured her, “I honestly never heard him talk about a girl so much until he met you… I really think that he’s taking you seriously.” He said truthfully.
“Oh that’s good…” Priya half-heartedly replied, “well I gotta go, talk to you later.”
“Okay, bye.”
And she hung up. Priya began to wonder if she was really getting over-confident about the fact that Jack would stay with her; that she wasn’t like the other girls. She checked her phone for a reply from him. She sent a text to him earlier; it was an idea to go to the mall if all else failed. Still no reply. She disappointedly set her phone onto the nightstand beside her and plopped herself onto her pillow.
Suddenly her phone began to beep repeatedly. Excitedly, she popped up and picked up her phone to read the message,
Jack: Come to the Freedom Friday night club downtown. I’ll be there at midnight. Make sure you come
Priya was confused as to why he would ask her to go to a night club with him so late at night. However her confusion was put aside by the happiness that Jack wanted to see her again. She glanced over to the clock that read 10:45. She still had some time to get ready.
…
She finally arrived at the club downtown by taxi. She stepped out of the cab and paid the driver. Priya looked around for any signs of Jack but couldn’t find him. She began to feel uneasy as the taxi drove away; it was 12:05, only five minutes past their meeting time and she couldn’t seem to spot him anywhere. There was a line with about ten people waiting in front of the club entrance. Suddenly, someone caught her eye at the front of the line. She caught a glimpse of his face; there was no doubt that it was Jack, walking into the club without her. She rushed past the line, pushing and shoving the others who were waiting, in order to catch up to Jack. The security guards simply let her pass into the door, most likely because she looked hot. Her hair was tousled and curled and her eye makeup was smokey and mysterious. She wore a flattering, short black dress that had a lace design on the back, all while strutting in spiked black stilettos. Priya had figured that this outfit would be appropriate for a late night out, despite the fact that it was her first time being at a night club. She was just lucky that her parents both had a night shift and her brother was sleeping at a friend’s house, so nobody stopped her from leaving the house earlier.
She ran as fast as her little heels could take her into the club, but she soon lost sight of Jack. She pushed her way through the crowd of dancers, searching for her date. After getting less than a quarter way into the ginormous dance floor, she finally spotted his figure in the dim strobe lights. She followed him, calling his name,
“Jack! Are you deaf?! Jack! Helloooo!” she yelled loudly.
He could certainly hear her, she was only a metre away, but ignored her screams. In the loud club, she shouted for him even louder, yet he acted like he didn’t hear a thing. She finally stopped her yells as she saw him slip his hand around the hip of the first girl he saw. Unsurprisingly the girl was dressed in a skimpy outfit. She willingly began to dance with him sexily as Priya stood there, heartbroken. She stood still and watched her lover dance with another girl, while everyone else in the club acted like they were the only ones on the planet, without a care in the world. Jack looked over at her, but he simply continued to dance with the unknown girl.
Priya and Jack both had their eyes locked on each other; he was still dirty dancing with the skank, but continued to shamelessly look Priya in the eye. It was clear that he acknowledged her presence but didn’t care; he was practically flaunting what he was doing in front of her. She began to feel a lump in her throat as she watched them grind each other in the darkness. She wanted to run, but couldn’t. She felt so weak, no matter how much she wanted her legs to move, they just wouldn’t. Tears began to sting her eyes as she watched. The tears rolled down her cheeks and dripped off her chin. She just couldn’t take it anymore; she dashed out of the club, sobbing.
