I sat down immediately, my face a deep shade of red and just then, Blake looked up at me. He smiled briefly and continued to focus on the ball, making the shade on my face get deeper. He sure had a pretty smile.
The match ended a draw and everyone was taking it lightly except Steve, of course, who was scowling so much. He walked up to Blake, poked him in the chest and whispered something to him. What was his problem?
Blake went over to his bag, took heavy gulps from his water bottle and proceeded to jog up the stairs to me.
"Hey, this isn't exactly an ideal place to read you know" Blake said as he sat beside me, an amused smile on his face.
"Yeah I know, but it was either the library or here and I wanted to study and not sleep" I replied and he chuckled "Never mind me, I didn't know you were on the basketball team"
"Well, I am" he replied.
"I won't ask if you're any good because I can see that you are" I replied "You're so good, you should be captain instead of jerkface". He laughed.
"Nah, I don't want such a responsibility" he shrugged "I've got so much on my plate as it is"
"Really? Like what?" I asked cocking an eyebrow.
"It's nothing" he replied waving me off.
"Modest much" I said rolling my eyes "Oh and what's with your brother? He's such a sore loser"
"Oh, he'll get over it" he said "and he's not my brother, he's my cousin"
"Oh. I'm sorry, my friend said you guys were related so I just assumed he was your brother"
"It's okay" he shrugged.
"Well that explains the vast difference in attitudes" I said rolling my eyes "he's such a jerk and you, you're anything but that. It's hard to believe you have the same blood running through you"
"Well...he's not that bad, he can be nice when he wants to be and you're giving me too much credit" he replied.
"You're being modest, again. Don't worry, you can gloat, I won't judge you" I said, making us both laugh.
"We should get going" he said, taking a look at his wrist watch. Some fancy leather I tell you. "This period is almost over and I have Mr. Donovan next period. Trust me, you do not want to be late to his class"
"Well, I have Mr. I-don't-know-who next but I'm sure he won't appreciate late coming either" I replied picking up my bag as he chuckled.
We stood up and he lead the way down the bleachers. The gym had emptied out now and we were one of the few people left.
"Of course, Blake's friends with the new girl" Steve said as we reached the door to the gym. He was standing just outside, talking to some friends and for some reason, he thought it necessary to acknowledge our appearance. "You're such a magnet for losers"
"Shut up Steve" Blake replied as we walked away. Serves him right.
Blake, being the gentleman he was, walked with me to my locker after which he said goodbye and left. Clover, who arrived just as he was leaving started to smile widely at me.
"What?" I asked confused.
"You guys make such a cute couple" she said squealing.
"Shut up Clo" I said, getting my books out of my locker.
"Awwwn, you look so cute when you blush" she teased again. I wasn't even blushing!
"Shut. Up." I repeated "Oh that reminds me, I saw Thomas Freeze earlier at the gym". And that, ladies and gentlemen, was all it took to turn the tables in my favour. Clover was in denial and she knew it!
