🎈 This part's quite short but I felt like it needed its own chapter🎈
A few days later, Bev was sitting on her bed, looking around at her new bedroom, both Ben's postcard with the poem on it and the drawing she had from Bill were in her hands. There was a knock on her door.
"Bev?" came her aunt's voice from the hallway.
Bev stood up, desperately searching for a place to hide the postcard and drawing, but then she stopped and calmed down. 'It's not Dad, she won't beat you for communicating with boys,' she remembered.
"Come in!" she yelled, and her aunt opened the door, holding a letter.
"This came in the mail for you," she said, handing the letter to her niece. Bev thanked her and she smiled, leaving the room and closing the door behind her. Bev opened the envelope and pulled the paper out, reading it:
'Dear Bev,
Hope you're okay at your Aunt's, we all really miss you. We all went to the clubhouse earlier, we saw your mark in the cabinet. Oh, and, Eddie found your anchor ring... well, he sort of sat on it.'
She laughed.
'We're at the quarry now, well, by the time you get this, it would have been a few days ago. It felt kind of weird, we all expected you to run up from behind us and jump off the cliff first. Everyone else is a bit sad that they didn't get to say goodbye, well, I say a bit sad. Richie's now yelling at me to tell you to come back as soon as you can.'
"Typical Richie," she chuckled.
'Anyway, I don't know whether you want your ring back or not, we've left it in a safe place in the clubhouse. Just let me know if you want it when you write back, and I can put it in the envelope in the next letter. Oh, and send me your phone number, then we can actually talk. I hope you liked your drawing and we'll write again soon.
From The Losers:
Bill, Ben, Stan, Mike, Eddie, and, leaving the best 'til last, Richie.'
"Trashmouth..." Bev muttered. She could tell that Bill wrote the letter, then the others signed their own names.
As she was about to put the letter in her drawer, sha noticed another message on the back of the page in Richie's scrawny handwriting:
'Oh and also, expect a letter from just me, having a go at you for leaving and not telling me when. YOU KNOW I NEVER PAY ATTENTION TO BILL!'
Bev sighed. She went over to her desk and got a notepad and pen out of the drawer to write back to her friends.
