I leaned against the cold brick wall staring at the body on the examination table. As I looked at the body a pang of hurt and sadness went through my heart. I breathed in deeply and pushed myself off of the wall standing closer to the examination table. After I got to the vet shop Scott finally woke up.
And the first thing we noticed when we walked inside was the body on the examination table. Bennett's body to be exact. I was shell shocked as I walked in and saw what was before our eyes.
The body was completely ripped apart at the chest and I didn't want to think about what pain Bennett went through. After Deaton explained to me what happened to Bennett he started to work quickly.
"They're coming back, so we don't have much time to talk," Deaton said.
"What is that?" Scott asked as Deaton picked up a bottle that had a clear substance in it before pouring it onto a cotton ball.
"Alcohol," Deaton said, dabbing it against Scott wounds, "You don't want it to get infected do you?"
Scott shook his head pulling his shirt further up for Deaton to work on the wounds and Scott started wincing in pain.
"It'll heal the same," Deaton stated, "But just not as quickly because it's from an Alpha."
"How do you know all of this?" Scott questioned his boss.
"Scott he doesn't have time to explain," I said, moving my eyes away from the body to look towards the two men.
"Trust me, it's a long story," Deaton answered, as he quickly placed a piece of gauze and tape around Scott's cut, "But what I can tell you is that I know about your kind."
"Your kind I can help," He said stepping away from Scott before gazing towards the body on the table, "But this, this is something different."
"Deaton, do you know what did this," I asked nervously.
"No, but the Argents will," He said. I groaned, taking a step away from them and started rubbing my head in frustration. Deaton glanced over at me, "You can ask them Emery. It's some kind of record or book. It has all the descriptions, histories, notations, of all the thing they've discovered."
"Wait, all the things?" Scott repeated in shock.
"Yeah that's the problem. Gerard has all those records and he doesn't trust me," I told him in frustration, ignoring Scott.
Deaton was about to reply but we all stopped what we were doing when we heard the sounds of vehicles coming to a stop outside of the building. I put my hand on Scott's shoulder, "You need to hide," I whispered to him before pushing him across the room into the back room and made my way back to Deaton's side.
Just then the bell above the front door rang and several pairs of footsteps started to enter the examination room.
"I'm starting to think I need to buy a more prominent 'closed' sign," Deaton said coolly as he worked on the body.
Just then both Chris and Gerard walked into the room, Chris looking shocked to see me standing there and Gerard just looking suspicious.
"Hello Allen." Gerard greeted walking over to us and then turned to me raising one of his eyebrows, "And hello to you too Emery. What are you doing here?"
I glared at him and pointed to Deaton, "He called me and said that he could use some help." I lied looking towards the body again, "Clearly he was right." Gerard nodded but I could see that he didn't believe me so he just ignored it and then turned his full attention back towards Deaton again.
"It's been a while. Last I heard, you had retired."
"Last I heard, you followed a code of conduct," Deaton shot back.
