I chewed on my bottom lip, thinking about how I am going to tell this teenage boy that is sitting in front of me what happened in the past six years. Scott is a werewolf and I'm a hunter. Part of me just wanted to run and not talk about it but the other part said that he has the right to at less know why I never came back after all these years. After all, he is my little brother.
"Emery, can you please tell me what the hell is going on?" Scott asked nervously.
I closed my eyes taking a deep breath before looking at Scott.
"Scott I know you might be scared of me after what you saw tonight, but just hear me out okay" I started looking at him.
Scott slowly nodded his head telling me that I can continue.
"Okay, well it all started about six years ago. It was when Hayley was killed." I started to explain. Scott's eyes turn into one of sadness as I mention Hayley. He knew that it was hard for me when she passed away. That I wasn't the same when she was gone.
I lowered my head looking away from him before continuing; "I told mom that it was just some guy that was trying to break into the cabin but it wasn't, I lied."
"What was it then?" He whispered.
"A werewolf," I told him, "After it killed her I was next in line but... I was saved by a group of hunters. They took me in and then they started to train me."
"Why didn't you come back home after what happened?" He asked with sadness in his voice.
"Because there were too many memories of her here," I said looking at my hands that were resting on my lap.
"Then why are you back now after all these years?" He questioned.
"I'm here because a good friend of mine Chris Argent called me telling me that his sister Kate passed away. He asked me to come to the funeral. Well, that's why I thought he wanted me here for but unfortunately I think there is more to the story."
Scott's eyes looked like they were going to fall out of their sockets as I mentioned that Chris was a good friend of mine.
"You're friends with Mr. Argent?" he asked nervously.
"Yes, why? How do you know him," I asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Well I dated his daughter Allison and also He knows that I'm a werewolf."
"You mean date. Not dated," I said in amusement.
"You always know when I'm lying," Scott said as he let out a nervous laugh and scratched the back of his head.
"Well, I'm your big sister, what did you expect," I said, bumping my shoulder against his playfully. I became serious again as he mentioned that Chris knows that he is a werewolf. I sat upright turning myself fully towards Scott before looking him straight into the eyes.
"Scott, does Gerard know? You know the guy that was with Chris and me," I questioned in fear. Gerard was the last person that I wanted to know that my little brother was a werewolf. And if he doesn't know but finds out he won't hesitate to kill Scott. That is the one thing that I won't let happen. I won't let that monster or any other hunter kill my brother.
"No, he doesn't. That was the first time I saw him. Who is he?" Scott asked curiously.
"Allison's grandfather and he is the worst of all of the hunters, Scott. Stay away from him. Do you understand me?" I asked. While, Scott nodded in response.
"One thing I don't understand. You're a hunter and I'm a werewolf why aren't you killing me" Scott asked me confused.
"Scott, I'm not your everyday hunter. I don't follow their code. I believe that there are good werewolves and if I can I will save them to. That means including you dumbhead," I told him with a soft laugh with him giving me a smile in return. A smile that meant he was glad I wasn't like the other hunters that I actually want to save not just the humans but the werewolves as well.
