CHAPTER 2
I felt myself being shaken awake. "Sweetheart, we're almost there. Wake up."
I stretched out as best I could in the passenger seat, rolling the window down and letting the smell of fresh cut grass and pine enter the car. I watched a few tress go by as we drove down a gravel path that pulled up to a two story modern Victorian styled house, that sat on an acre of land right outside of town near some woods. There were 6 pillars on the front porch, stairs that let up to the front door, large windows on both sides with black paneling. A few trees out, and fresh cut grass made it look very, homey.
"This is where I grew up. I called ahead to have the place renovated. I'm sure it needed it, no one had been there for over 10 years."
"It's nice."
We came to a stop and I climbed out looking around at the size of the place, it had to be twice the size of our old home back in Virginia. I walked up the stairs that led to the front door, "Its unlocked, take a look around and I'm going to make a quick phone call, and I'll be right in."
I swung the door open and stepped inside, admiring the foyer and the hard wood flooring throughout. The left of the foyer was a set of stairs that was separated by a large wooden door. I peeked my head into the right of the foyer and down the steps that led into the living room. It was so open with its high ceilings and large windows. The open floor plan that led right into the kitchen and dinning.
"Ah, still as I remember, same furniture and everything." I turned around to see my mom carrying some of the bags inside. "Well, don't just stand there, check out the upstairs." She pointed behind me towards the stairs.
I didn't take the time to look around the kitchen as I made my way up the staircase to the second floor landing. I walked down the hallway opening doors on the way down. At the far end of the hallway was a window, I peeked through the blinds to see where it looked out on. The backyard was huge, on one side were miles and miles of grass and trees, and the other had a giant willow tree, that hung over a koi pond.
Opening the door on my right, I walked in and stood in the middle of the massive room. It was mostly empty besides the red oak dresser against the wall adjacent to the balcony doors and mirror that hung above it. The walk-in closet seemed like it stretched on for miles with shelves that could hold thousands of shoes.
I walked back out and to the balcony doors that looked out on to the eastside of the backyard that faced the koi pond. Closing my eyes I breathed in the cool autumn air, letting it fill my lungs. As I went to head back in, something off to my left caught my eye. I squinted at the woods that bordered the yard, straining my eyes to see what was there. I took a step back, and that's when I saw it, a huge black wolf staring right at me. My mouth opening and closing as I tried to comprehend what I was seeing.
"I see you found your room."
I jumped and looked over my shoulder at my mom and then back at the woods where the wolf was just standing, but it was gone.
"Oh um, yeah I guess so."
"You okay there, you look like you've seen a ghost?"
Shaking off what I saw, I nodded my head and went to go grab my stuff out the car.
