Chapter 7
2:12am
I stared at the clock on my bed side table, waiting for sleep to take me, but it never came. Sighing, I got out of bed and put on a pair of sweats and a hoodie. I quietly made my way down the stairs making sure not to wake my mother, and to the front door for my shoes. I gently closed the door and continued down the gravel path of the driveway.
I wrapped my arms around myself to keep warm as I made my way into town. A mile passed the pharmacy was a small park, and passed that a lake. I walked all the way to the lake and sat down starring across the water. Breathing in the fresh morning air, I laid down on the soft grass staring up at the sky. A rustling noise came from the woods to the right of me, hoping it was my black wolf, I rolled over quickly only to see that it was just a baby deer.
I sighed and rolled back onto my back. "I miss you dad." The tears rolled down my cheeks as I lay there. I closed my eyes and listened to the sounds of the creatures in the woods. That's when something cold and wet touched my face. I opened my eyes to see my black wolf sitting there staring down at me. I sat up on my knees so that I was looking up at him. "I know, I probably shouldn't be out here but I couldn't sleep."
He laid down on the grass and motioned with his head for me to do the same. I laid back down but closer to him, knowing his body would warm me up. I didn't know why, but I felt safe whenever I was around him. It was nice just laying here with him in the silence. Time passed and soon the sun was rising over the tree tops, casting an orange glow across the sky and lake.
"It's beautiful." I looked up at the wolf who was watching me. My eyes became droopy and soon I couldn't keep them open anymore. I rested my head on the wolf's paw and fell asleep.

When I woke up I was in one of the beach chairs on the back porch with a blanket thrown over me. Slightly dazed I got up slowly, looking around. "How did I get here?"
"That's a good question."
I looked up at the back door where my mother stood with a questioning look on her face. "Emily what in the world. You could have been kidnapped in the middle of the night."
"Nothing happened mom, just went for a walk, you don't have to worry."
"Not this time, but something could have. Listen to me next time. Don't go out in the middle of the night, understood?"
I stood up and walked inside. "Emily!"
"Mom! I told you nothing happened and I can take care of myself. When will you just let me grow up."
"Fine. You think you can take care of yourself, then leave go. Find a place of your own."
I stared at her dumbstruck, my mouth hanging open. "You're serious?"
"Yes, you said it yourself, you're grown, and can take care of yourself. So go pack your stuff and leave."
I stood there astonished , but went and did just that, I packed all the necessities and stuffed them all in my suit case. I took the stairs two at a time and was out the door. I walked down the driveway having a sense of déjá vú. Once I made it into town I found the nearest motel and walked in.
"Hello miss, how can I help you?" The guy at the counter who looked to be in his twenties asked.
I leaned on the counter to look at his name tag. "Philip, one room please."
"And for how long will you be staying, Miss?" He asked with a raised brow.
"Winters. Emily Winters."
