Chapter 6
"Hi."
"Hi."
"So can I come in or do I have stand out here all night?"
"Oh gosh yes, sorry." He smiled as I opened the door wider to let him in. I smiled, my cheeks feeling like two hot suns. "We got hungry so we started eating." I fiddled with my fingers as we headed back to the kitchen. "These last few years have been quite something, running for mayor and all." There was a brief pause as we came in. I sat back down in my seat, Eli taking the seat across from me. "Have fun, son?" I looked at Mr. North, his eyes filled with disgust. Confused I stared over at a pissed off Eli whose eyes were narrowed. "Next time you decide to do something like that again, make sure it's out of my house understood." He nodded and everyone resumed eating, with an awkward silence.
"So, Eli how old are you now?" my mother asked breaking the silence.
Eli cleared his throat, "I just turned 28 a few months ago."
"Really? The last time I seen you, you were but a little tiny thing. Well, my daughter here is 23 maybe you two could start dating."
I all but choked on the pasta I was chewing and looked at my mom. "MOM!" I blushed and shook my head at her like she was crazy. "I'm flattered Mrs. Winters but I'm occupied at the moment." For a split second my heart felt like it got stomped on.
"Oh, its ashamed, I think you two would have be cute together. Don't you think Emily?"
I tried to play it cool, "No mom, I barely know him. Besides I have my sights set on someone else." I lied. The sound of a metal snapping had us all looking over at Eli. His eyes were closed and he had a hand over his mouth, the other was gripping the fork, now in two.
"Take a walk son." Mr. North said. "Now."Eli shout out of his seat and stormed towards the front door, slamming it on the way out.
"I'm so sorry for his behavior April." Mrs. North let out a sigh, and pushed her food around.*
After dinner we all went and sat in the living room, my mother bringing up stories from when she lived here as a kid. The whole room was filled with laughter as they reminisced about the good times. I sat there thinking about the black wolf, and wishing they would hurry up and leave so that I can go see him. Eli hadn't returned since his outburst at the table.
"If you'll excuse me, I'm going to take a short walk around the garden, try and walk off this pasta." I said getting up and walking toward the back door.
"Sure honey."
Outside the cold air hit, and I felt my body relax. I walked down to the koi pond and sat down on the bench under the willow tree.
"What a night."
"I'll say."
I jumped up, about to karate chop the culprit, when I turned around and seen Eli leaning against the tree.
"What are you doing out here, I thought you left?" I said letting out a breath and sitting back down facing him.
"No, I just needed some air is all."
"So you're good now? Not going to snap a tree branch in half are you?" He stiffened and turned away from me for a minute before turning back around and taking a seat next to me.
"Sorry you had to see that."
"It's fine." I stared at him while he looked down at the koi swimming in the water, the moonlight shinning down on it."Is it true?" He asked suddenly.
"Is what true?" I asked confused. He looked up at me, his gaze intense.
"Do you have someone? A boyfriend or whatever the fuck.""Does it matter?" I asked kind of annoyed by the change in attitude. I watched him clench his hands around the edge of the bench, as if he were holding himself back.
"Careful, don't want you snapping the bench in half."
He let out a growl which had me sliding away from him. "Don't move away from me. And yes it matters.""If it mattered, then what did you mean when you said you were occupied at the moment?"
He stayed silent so I continued. "Do you have a girlfriend or whatever the fuck? Or do you sleep around? I mean from what your dad said earlier, made it seem like you did." At this point I was standing, and getting angry. Why was I getting angry, over this I barely know the guy."It's not like that." He whispered, looking up at me. I scrunched my eyebrows together. "What? What do you mean its not like that?"
"I mean, yes I sleep around, or at least I did."
Well, I did not expect him to come right out and say that. I bit my lip and nodded my head and started walking away."Hey wait." I felt his hand wrap around my wrist, the warmth sending tingles up my arm. "Wait, I stopped as soon as I met you." I pulled my wrist out of his hand, "Oh you stopped after meeting me? Which was yesterday." I rolled my eyes "Look, I think its best if you leave." The wind blew making me shiver, Eli noticed and pulled his jacket off handing it to me. "No thanks." I said, pushing his hand back.
"Please, take it." I looked at him, and I could see the turmoil and sadness in his eyes, so I let him wrap the jacket around me and we walked back over to the bench and sat down. It was silent for a long while. Cold finger tips touched mine sending sparks or warmth over my hand. "Do you feel it too?" I asked, looking up at him. The moon seemed to be shinning a lot brighter tonight, Eli's eyes were glowing, that it became hypnotizing, that I felt myself leaning in.
"Very much so." His deep masculine voice, made me want to melt. I couldn't help myself, I leaned in further bringing my hand up to his cheek, feeling the slight stubble coming in. I moved so that I was straddling the bench. Eli watched me through hooded eyes, his moon lite eyes looked like they were flickering between light grey and black.
"Your eyes..?" I started to ask about them, but before I knew it, his lips were crashing against mine. I stilled eyes wide before I gave in. His lips were so plump and soft, and moved rough against mine. I felt his hands slide underneath me pulling me into his lap, my hands wrapping around his neck and tugging on his hair. He let out a growl, and bit my lip making me moan, which caused another growl to escape him.
He pulled back, looking down at the ground. I took a deep breath and pressed my fingers to my lips. He slid me off his lap and stood up."I should probably get going now." His voice was rough.
"Did I do, some—." Before I could ask he was making his way back to the house.
I threw my hands, slapping them back down on my thighs. I felt tears pricking my eyes but took a deep breath and looked. I shook my head and cleared my throat before going back inside."Alright, it was nice seeing you again April." Mr. and Mrs. North said.
"Yes, thank you for coming, I'll see you around. Goodnight."
My mother closed the door with a sigh and turned to me all smiles. "How was your walk with Eli?"
I rolled my eyes and made my way to my room. "I'm going to bed."
When I got to my room, I realized I still had Eli's jacket. Taking it off I tossed it in the chair in the corner. I shut the light off and laid there in bed, thoughts of Eli, buzzing around in my head, I just know I'm not going to get any sleep.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
