Kiss her right now, Richard! Just do it. She is right there. Ready for the taking.
His head bent just as Lorenzo's voice hollered for him. Instantly, he was shoved away and Dawn quickly moved passed him as Lorenzo entered the kitchen.
Glowering at the interrupter, Richard sneered. "What?"
Taken aback at his sudden hostility but smiled nevertheless observing the shift in the mood. Lorenzo purposely ignored it and said, "Gloria has come back. She has been asking for you."
"Is that why you disturbed me? Because she called?"
Dawn's brows bunched in puzzlement. This was strange. Why would he be so rude to his own wife?
Speaking of wife, what the fucking hell was he about to do? Not to mention, she hadn't moved to stop him either.
"There you are!" Gloria walked into the kitchen, slamming the door open.
It hit Lorenzo on the back as she uncaringly moved towards Richard.
Urgh... her mother can be so insensitive and rude, it's a miracle she turned out to be her daughter.
"What is it?" He barked and Gloria visibly shriveled at his tone.
Yet she mistaken his rudeness at her as something that might have been troubling him, so she asked politely. "Is something wrong? Did Dawn talk back at you?"
The audacity of her mother made Dawn lose her head and she opened her mouth to speak up when Richard beat her to it. "What's wrong is you disturbing my mental peace at the moment. Not Dawn."
He didn't let her utter the next word and simply passed by her out of the kitchen.
Dawn remain stationary. Did he just defend me?
Her mouth shut momentarily when her mother turned around, glaring at her. She raised her shoulders. "What? I didn't do anything!"
"You better had not! He is my husband and I don't want you meddling into business that's not yours. Is that clear?"
Dawn grew angrier at her mother's lack of trust in her own daughter. Toxically, she spat out. "Crystal clear."
Gloria primed her chin up, and walked past her. She sometimes wished she had a place to stay or else she wouldn't have taken such shit.
"Hey you okay?" Lorenzo's voice surprised her, making her jump.
"Uh- yeah." No, she wasn't.
She was getting tired of being mistreated by her mother. She didn't care for her. She made a big show of how much she loved her in front of people but that's what it was. A big show.
"You want to continue making the pizza?"
Suddenly, she wasn't very hungry any more. Declining, she told him she would go out for a walk. In Dawn's definition, that's an escape.
Shrugging out of the dusty apron, she handed it to Lorenzo who smiled sadly. Before leaving by the kitchen door, she ran up to her room and took her camera with her.
Looping the camera's strap around her neck, she stepped out into the warm night.
It was breezy but also slightly agreeable with the tepid heat outside. The grass was freshly cut and she started making her way to the barn.
Somehow that became a safe place for her.
It established a sense of her self in it. Unnatural but fairly disposed to it. Like the barn, she liked the natural odor surrounding it.
