I remember the excitement shining in my little cousins' eyes
As they both looked out the window, at the sea and the sky
Each had its own beauty, and each rivalled the other
In the car ahead, my cousin sister took pictures, while the car was driven by my cousin brother.
I remember the salt burning my eyes
As my cousin sister splashed water on my face, taking me by surprise
As my younger cousins held onto my uncle,
And screamed out when splashed, which caused us all to chuckle
I remember the dead fish my cousin and I found
And how my uncle thought it was funny to throw it on me when I turned around.
And how I screamed and ran away,
And how it latched onto my cousin's abaya when she tried to swim away.
"No!" She cried, waddling away
"Somebody get it away!"
I may have been guilty of laughing
But it's fine, since we're cousins
I remember the drive to the beach
When my uncle bought us McDonalds ice cream
I remember the drive back home
And the pictures we took are still in my phone
