I pedalled harder as the sun began to set. I was on my way to the Yangjicheon Riverbank. The sky darkened, a cascade of pinks and purples. It was beautiful. Riding my bike like this, seeing the sunset, made me feel lighter, as if all my burdens from the day were forgotten for a few moments.

Just as my mom had started to prepare dinner, I decided to take a ride. I didn't want to see anyone at home. No one ever smiled when they saw me. That was when I realized...even if you lived with people your entire life, it didn't make you family unless you loved each other truly. When my Hyungs left one by one from school, we hardly kept contact despite us still living in the same city. Now that they were gone, I had no one to show me any love.

The sun finally went down. The moon wasn't out yet. By the time I reached the riverbank, it was dark. Things had changed in this area a little bit...there was a park now where a road used to be. There was a scrap yard, by the looks of it, here too. It was filled with old tyres, garbage and beat up cars.

I leaned my bike against one of the bridge's pillars and made my way down to the riverbank. I spotted a few kids on the other side drinking and messing around with a few sticks they'd found on the ground.

My side was quiet. I guess it was partly due to the scrappy demeanour of this area. The other side was cleaner and more appealing. I was happy to be on this side though. I was happy to be by myself for a while. Nobody would be able to find me here either.

I didn't want this moment of solitude and peace to ever end...
