Shen Wei fidgeted with the keys before finally opening the door. The first thing his senses noticed was the smell of a home-made food and he smiled to himself. Before meeting Yunlan he was coming back to an empty apartment which was a cozy place, but a lonely one. He could not believe how much joy it brought to him to have someone there waiting for him. Shen had more energy during the day, his mood raised and he observed he looked happier. It was all thanks to the fact he knew that after coming back home and opening those door, Yunlan will be there.
"Wei!" Yunlan exclaimed happily when he almost bumped into Shen Wei standing at the door to the kitchen, watching him. "I made you some soup because the weather was cold the whole day. You said you had some errands to do in the city, you must be freezing." He came to the other man and hugged him. "Your ears are cold. Come on, sit down." He motioned Shen to sit across him at the table and serve his soup, so far the only meal he mastered making.
"Thank you so much." Shen Wei was touched by Yunlan being so concerned about him.
"Why are you waiting? Eat," Yunlan beamed.
Shen Wei nodded and picked up his spoon, but his mind was too preoccupied he was not able to enjoy the meal fully. "Isn't it way too soon to ask him? What if he says no and it will affect our relationship? I could not bear that..."
"Wei?"
"Wei?"
"Hm?"
"You are spacing out. Are you all right?" Yunlan was not blind to Shen's shaking hands and the wrinkle in between his eyebrows. In the short while they were together Yunlan learnt it meant Shen was thinking about something troublesome. He reached out and took Shen Wei's hand into his own. "Is everything fine?"
Shen looked at him and only managed to give a nervous smile.
"You are making me worried..." Yunlan frowned as well. "What is wrong?"
"Nothing is wrong. Everything is perfect."
"Did you have a long day? Do you want me to leave, so that you can have some rest?" Yunlan was so excited to tell Wei about his day, but if his loved one was so tired he did not want to keep him from resting.
Shen squeezed Yunlan's hand as if to refrain him for leaving. "I had a very eventful day, but I don't need any rest." He breathed in sharply.
"Then what-"
"I just... wanted to talk to you about something and I don't know how to start." Shen Wei shifted on the chair and sighed to gather courage and calm his nerves which did not lessen Yunlan's worry.
Yunlan took Shen's hands into his to show he was there for him and he was paying him all his attention. His own heart was racing and he tried his best to stop different scenarios forming in his mind.
"Yunlan," Shen started. "We are together for a few months only, but it has been the best time of my life. I have never felt so loved in my whole life and I would like to thank you for giving me the chance and allowing me to love you back."
"I feel exactly the same, Wei," Yunlan squeezed the hands of his boyfriend. "You have given me so much I cannot ever repay that to you. I never felt I am worth to be loved, but you..." Yunlan could feel tears forming at the corners of his eyes. "You love me for who I am I cannot ask for more."
"You are worth all the love I give you," Shen Wei whispered and reached out to caress Yunlan's cheek. "You bring me so much joy, I don't even want to imagine my life without you." Hearing those words tears strolled down Yunlan's cheeks and landed on Shen Wei's hand.
"I really love you, you know."
"I love you too," Shen leaned closer and placed a soft kiss on Yunlan's forehead. "Yunlan, I know this might be sudden and I would completely understand if you don't like the idea, but I was thinking... how about we start living together?"
"What?" Yunlan let out a surprised sigh. "... do you really want to?"
"Nothing would make me happier," Shen Wei said. "But only if you feel the same. I know it might be too soon..."
Yunlan wiped away his tears and in one swift motion stood up and run around the table to sit on Shen Wei's lap, hugging him around the shoulders. "I would love it, Wei! I really do!"
Shen Wei hugged the man back and let out a sigh of relief. He was glad the burdening question he so feared to asked met such a great response. The joy was so high tears slipped under his eyelashes as well.
Yunlan shifted back to be able to look into Shen's face. "Are you really sure about this, Wei? I mean... nothing can make me happier than moving in with you, but I can be very messy and your place is sometimes so... pristine."
"You are already spending most of your time here," Shen smiled. "And nothing was broken or burned to ashes. Even if it would, I would still love you the same."
Yunlan hugged him again, nuzzling the delicate skin on Shen Wei's neck. "I am really thanking Heavens we met, Wei. You are my everything, you know."
Shen placed a kiss into Yunlan's hair. "I feel the same."
At that moment, no one could ever describe what glee those two felt. It was a comforting feeling knowing there was someone opening his heart to you, allowing you to be part of his life completely. And whatever was to come their way next, they both knew they are going to deal with it easily, because starting this moment it would never be only one person fighting alone.
