Gusion didn't lose hope. It was dark, but he could still hear Guinevere's scream.

The air pierced through his face like cold daggers as he fell, and it was gradually feeling more colder and fiercer as he went deeper.

With his vision clouded, he blinked forward, following Guinevere's voice.

To his relief, he managed to blink right next to her, who was flailing her arms wildly mostly because of the spiders falling with her and not because of the coming pain once she hit the ground.

He hastily reached for her, locking his arms around her waist as he pulled her close that her scream stopped.

"Gusion?" She asked, surprised and confused.

Gusion merely pressed her head against his chest, holding her close as he waited for death to come.

Maybe it wasn't that bad, dying with his nose filled with Guinevere's familiar violet scent.

Just when he settled with the thought of dying, they broke through a layer of black smoke that was enough to break the momentum of their fall.

Then they hit the ground in a lesser impact, Gusion taking it all as Guinevere landed on top of him.

Relief rushed all over him and he scanned what was right over them.

The surface of the hole they fell through was not visible, and a swirling black smoke was all there was.

He figured out they were in a cave that emitted cold air that sent chills deep into their bones.

Its ceiling was filled with slimy black liquids and glimmering black stalactites.

He looked down and came face to face with Guinevere, who hastily got off him, her face flushing red.

He sat up. "Are you alright?"

He was taken aback when she looked at him again, her eyes piercing and angry.

"What?"

"Why did you jump after me like that?!"

His brows furrowed. "Shouldn't you be thanking me for that?"

She leaned to his direction to yell at him, making him lean away to keep his eardrums intact. "What if it was a bottomless pit into the abyss?! Or a fall that would've been our deaths!"

He stared at her, finding her ridiculous. "Then what do you expect me to do? Just go on with the quest and think you're already dead?"

"Shouldn't that be the case?!"

"Then would you have done that then if it was me who fell?!" He asked quizzically.

He felt triumphant when he saw the flash of hesitation in her eyes.

Guinevere had always been blunt and certain, but she was also the last person who would give up on a person.

The fact that she was here for Rafaela was enough evidence for that.

"Of course I would've carried on with the quest and just fathom the fact that you're dead!" She exclaimed, but her eyes was saying otherwise.

"Can you at least make that sound convincing?"

"Ugh!" She got to her feet and looked around.

Gusion did the same, standing right next to her in case anything creepier than spiders might spring out of the dark tunnels all around them.

Then he looked sideways at her when he remembered something. "Your greatest fear is spiders?"

Her gaze looked sharper than ever when she looked at him, then his breathing got cut off when she suddenly hit his stomach hard, making him crouch in pain.
