To say the least, she did not sleep.and the crying of the girls in the rooms next to us did not help at all.
Soon a social worker came in.
"Hi sweetie" the lady spoke.
Alexis didn't respond.
"How long have you been help by these men?" She asked, showing her a picture of about five men.
She instantly looked away from the picture.
"Eleven years" she whispered.
The lady was clearly shocked.
She was taken when she was five.
"Do you remember anything about your parents or-" "dead" she spoke as if it was so simple.
"Are you sure-" "positive." She cleared her throat quickly.
"What's their names anyway-" "Drake and Amanda Butler, they died June 14, 2010, which was also the day I was taken by the men, because the men killed my parents." She spoke, tears instantly rolling out of her eyes.
"How are you so sure of the date- you were five-" "it's my birthday." She now cried out, this topic clearly affecting her.
"Still, they could be alive-" "leave." I spoke.
"Excuse me doctor, I'm doing my job-" "and I'm doing mine, so leave when I say leave." I spat to her.
She laughed lightly.
"Okay" she spoke as she stood, leaving the room.
"Thank you." Alexis spoke as I handed her a tissue.
"No need to thank me." I mumbled.
I sat with her, watching her bounce her knee and wipe her tears as we waited.
"Can I get you anything? Water, food?" I asked her.
She looked to me slowly.
"I'm okay" she spoke.
I didn't believe her.
I left and quickly grabbed her water and a protein bar, bringing it back to her.
I set it on a small table beside her, but she didn't touch it, but I also wasn't going to force her.
It was there if she wanted it.
Soon Ashton entered.
"Hi, I'm Doctor Irwin, but you can call me Ashton." He spoke to her instantly.
She was staring straight at me.
"You're okay, this is my friend, he's another doctor here at the hospital" I told her, seeing her slowly nod.
"This is Alexis, she's sixteen, weighing eighty nine pounds at the height of 5'2." I told him.
"Visible injuries?" He asked me.
"Large bruises everywhere, Michael is coming for a consult on a broken collarbone and possible spine injuries." I told him.
"Okay Alexis, you and I are just going to talk- Doctor Hemmings will leave the room-" "leave?" She spoke quickly.
"Yes, just so you have more privacy, these are more personal questions-" "I want Kara" she spoke, instantly throwing her legs over the side of the bed to stand.
"Who is Kara?" I asked quickly, catching her to where she wouldn't stand.
"Michael's patient who was just sedated, she's asleep." Ashton informed me.
"She's sleeping-" "I want to go" she clearly panicked.
"Relax." I told her firmly, seeing the tears coming into her eyes again.
"Why are you panicking? We were so calm a second ago-" "I don't know him- Kara didn't tell me that he won't hurt me" she cried, a tear falling.
That's what her and Kara whispered about.
"Do you want me to stay? Would that make you feel better?" I asked her.
She surprisingly nodded.
So that's what we did.
I sat close to her as Ashton asked questions about the conditions she lived in.
"Where did you sleep?" He asked her.
"With Kara" she told him quietly.
"So- on the floor?" He asked her.
She nodded firmly.
"Do you use tampons or pads?" He asked her.
"They made us all use tampons" she told him.
"Did they rape you or touch you in any way?" He asked her.
she stared straight forward, blinking
"Alexis" I whispered, grabbing her hand gently, seeing her look to my hand.
"I don't want to talk anymore"
