To say the least, their goodbyes had almost everyone in the hospital teary eyed.

Alexis refused to stay in bed, despite having a concussion, she wanted to walk her to the door.

So Luke brought her to the door.

"We've never hugged" Kara laughed as they held each other's hands, Kara's mom and dad taking pictures and crying along with everyone else.

Alexis instantly took her into a hug.

Kara held her immediately.

"I'll keep in contact with you and Luke, okay?" She smiled as they pulled away.

Alexis nodded.

"Bye Kara" Alexis exhaled.

"Bye Lex"

Alexis stood in the exact spot until Kara was in the car and driving away.

I could tell she was sniffing and crying even with her back towards us.

"Alexis" Luke spoke calmly, carefully grabbing her

"You can't leave me" Alexis instantly cried out to him.

She hugged him tighter than I've ever seen.

"Please don't leave me, Luke"

Luke just hugged her, keeping his lips touched to her head.

"Come on angel, lets get you some sleep."

He ended up carrying her back to her room, where all the nurses and extra doctors almost stared to us as we all walked past, sympathy covering their faces.

Luke laid her in bed, kneeling beside the bed with her.

He wiped her tears, smiling to her.

"I thought the pain was over?" She asked him, breaking my heart.

"It is over, pretty girl." He exhaled slowly.

"I know your heart still hurts, but it won't feel like this forever. Before you know it, Kara will be coming back to visit with you." He told her quietly.

"Luke" she spoke, making him hum.

"I don't want my uncle anymore" her voice cracked.

Luke's face showed pure confusion.

"Why, Lex?" He asked her.

"I don't want to go anywhere without you." She spoke through tears.

He looked to me, and I was also shocked.

Luke wasn't fit to raise a sixteen year old- none of us were

"We can talk about this in the morning, okay?" He whispered to her, making her nod.

He stayed right beside her until she fell asleep, and he walked outside of the room with me, ruffling his hair.

"Luke" I mumbled.

"Don't" he spoke back.

"Are you thinking about taking her in?" I asked him.

"I don't know what I'm thinking, Calum." He spoke to me quickly.

"Luke she needs to be with her uncle- he was so happy-" "I fucking know- don't you think I fucking know that!" He almost yelled to me.

I put my hands up.

"You haven't been home since she came in- it's been almost three weeks." I reminded him.

"I think you're too invested in the patient-" "stop, Calum," he spoke to me.

"Luke- you cant sit here and tell me that you haven't created a bond with her-" "I create a bond with all my patients." He spat out to me

"So you stay overnight for weeks for all your patients? You wipe all of your patients tears? You think about adopting every patient that doesn't have a home-" he shoved me against the wall, holding me there, making me laugh.

I knew he wouldn't hit me- he was just trying to shut me up.

"You slam your coworker and best friend against the wall for all your patients?" I didn't shut up, but I saw those words sink into his head.

He instantly let me go.

"I'm sorry" he instantly spoke, rubbing his face.

"Luke- if she needed a chest tube, but was crying and begging you not to do it, could you still do it?" I asked him.

"That's not going to happen-" "answer the question." I spoke.

He just stared to me.

I nodded slowly.

"You couldn't preform necessary and life saving operations on her because you-" "I'm not a bad doctor, don't you dare say I'm a bad doctor!" He almost yelled.

"I never said that." I spoke firmly to her.

"But you love her, you love her like she's your little sister, and that is not allowed." I spoke slowly to him.

"I could do a chest tube on her if she needed it-" "I'm going to talk to the chief about all of this." I told him slowly.

"Calum, if I get kicked off of her case I can only see her during visiting hours, she needs me-" "Luke have you looked at yourself?" I asked him.

He stared to me

"You have bags under your eyes, you bite your nails, your paychecks are smaller than I've ever seen them- you are losing yourself, you're stressing yourself out, it's okay to take a break, she will still be here and I will treat her myself if that makes you feel better." I told him.

He knew I was being honest, and I knew he needed to hear it.

He needed to go home.

He needed to see his family and get back into surgery.

"She isn't going to be okay-" "she will be fine." I told him firmly.

"I'll make sure of it, and I'll make sure her and her uncle bond, because they both need each other. They both lost people that day, they will be okay." I told him firmly

"He needs her- I can't be enough for her forever." Luke shook his head, but yet I saw tears in his eyes.

"Go home and get some sleep man, shes already asleep and the medicine will keep her asleep until you get back tomorrow."
