Luke.I ended up getting tired and just falling back, letting her continue to basically sleep on top of me.
And I went right to sleep with her.
I woke up to Alexis moving a little.
And then she suddenly sat up quickly out of no where- instantly avoiding my touch.
"It's me- it's Luke" I told her, quickly turning my phone flashlight on to where she could see.
"Oh shit- I'm sorry- I forgot and I didn't know who you were." She exhaled, placing a hand to her chest.
"It's okay" I told her, sitting up, seeing her look to me.
"Can we go get food?"
It was four in the morning, but I was surely walking with her through the hospital and straight to the cafeteria, where I found my favorite lunch lady.
"Hey pretty boy!" He older lady, Edna immediately grinned once she saw me.
"Hey Edna" I smiled back to her.
"What are you two doing here so early? We never get visitors at this time" she smiled to us.
"An early morning snack, I guess." I smiled to Alexis.
We grabbed mainly fruits and pizza before claiming a table.
"Why do they have pizza cooked at four in the morning?" Alexis asked me as she bit into her pizza.
"I have no idea, but I'm so glad that they do."
Her and I held a conversation, going back and forth, mainly about food.
Until she asked a question
"What happens to me when you think it's time for me to be discharged?" She asked me."What do you mean?" I asked her.
"Like- I don't have a mom or dad- so do I have to live with strangers?" She asked me slowly.
"Your uncle" I told her slowly.
"You were able to contact him?" She asked me, making me nod.
"He's coming in Wednesday." I told her.
"Wait- so I have to leave Wednesday?" She asked me quickly.
"No, you still have a week or two more with us, you're still too weak- you can't walk for very long without taking a break, we have to improve that before you leave." I told her slowly.
"What if- my uncle doesn't want me?" She asked.
"Your uncle was ecstatic when I told him- he even cried, he's going to love you." I told her quickly.
"But what if I can't love him?" She asked me.
I looked to her.
"He's your family, Alexis- he won't hurt you." I told her.
"I've just-" she cut herself off as she played with a grape, looking to her hands.
"I've been forced to love a lot of people that I actually hated over the past eleven years." She spoke slowly.
"I just don't know that I can trust people easily- I don't understand how everyone is so relieved to see their families again- it's all just- I can't comprehend it." She mumbled.
"All of the other girls didn't go through half of the stuff that you did." I told her.
"The longest any other girl was held was three years." I continued.
"You were so young, I'm sure you don't remember what anyone looked like, you have had affection in a long time, you haven't even had anyone but Kara who actually gave a fuck about you and loved you the past eleven years." I told her.
"So it's going to be hard, but I promise you when I say that you will not leave this hospital until I'm sure that you and your uncle are comfortable and happy with each other."
