"No- absolutely not, please don't cry." He panicked, seeing the tears in my eyes."Then why am I bleeding?" The first tear fell down my cheek.
Calum.
I should've double taped it.
The tape just came loose and the IV slipped out.
But she was panicking.
And I didn't want her crying, but she was surely crying.
"Listen, the tape on the IV just came loose and it slipped out, it's no big deal, I'm just going to push it back in and tape it better, okay?" I explained to her slowly.
"I want Luke" she cried to me, her eyes almost begging me.
"He will be here in minutes, I'm just going to put more tape over this, okay?" I explained to her, since I had already pushed it back in while she was talking to me.
She looked away from me as I taped it down securely and cleaned the blood that had dropped down her arm.
"All better" I told her as I watched her rub her eyes.
She was tired.
"Can I sleep when Luke gets here?" She asked me.
"You have to wait thirty minutes before you can sleep, but it will go fast." I assured her.
But this medicine made everyone drowsy.
And her emotions were coming out more and more.
"I just want Luke" she cried- conveniently just as Luke ran through the door.
"I heard she hit her head-" "your intern hit her head with the door." I corrected him.
"My angel" he spoke, sitting on the edge of her bed with her, holding her head to where he could look to her eyes.
"Did you do a brain scan?" He asked me quickly.
"Yes- it's just a concussion- I just started her medicines about five minutes ago." I told him.
He instantly calmed her down.
He sat beside her in bed, she leaned her head on his shoulder and held his arm calmly.
And then Kara came in, her parents holding her bags, telling me that she was going home.
"No" I heard Alexis say slowly.
"Hey" Kara spoke, sitting beside her knees, taking her hands instantly.
I saw Alexis already tearing up.
"Thank you, for everything." Kara spoke to her.
"I don't want to be here without you." Alexis' voice cracked, breaking my heart in the process.
Kara rubbed her cheek gently, managing to smile.
"Now you have Luke" she smiled to her.
"He's going to protect you, and he's going to be even better at it than I was, okay?" She spoke to her.
"Will I ever see you again?" Alexis asked her.
Kara gave her the smallest smile.
Kara was from Hawaii, we were located in California- it would take serious planning, but it wasn't impossible.
"What kind of big sister would I be if I didn't come back to see you?" Kara smiled.
Kara touched her forehead to Alexis'.
Both of them had silent tears running down their faces.
"Thank you" Alexis whispered to her.
"For what?" Kara questioned her
"For reminding me what it's like to have a mom."
