the next day at school, yoongi was waiting at his desk for hyejin to arrive.
he somehow had a bad feeling, and he was worried that something might have happened to her.
the bell rang, mr. kim entered the classroom and the class eventually started.
upon seeing the empty seat beside yoongi, mr. kim asked, "yoongi, hyejin hasn't arrived yet?"
he bit his lower lip anxiously, "no, no she hasn't."
mr. kim frowned after seeing yoongi's expression, "is there something wrong? why do you look worried?"
"i don't know, seokjin hyung. i think something happened to her. she seemed a bit off yesterday." yoongi uttered, recalling the words she said before getting off the bus.
at this point, mr. kim was seemingly puzzled by yoongi. he's known him for a while now but he's never seen him act like this before.
the whole class also looked surprised, and soon everyone was whispering with each other.
jimin raised his hand to catch mr. kim's attention, "shouldn't we try contacting her parents to check on her?"
parents. yoongi sighed.
mr. kim scratched his nape upon seeing the serious look in yoongi's face, "well, if you guys are worried then i guess yoongi could go downstairs and ask for the list of phone numbers—"
just as yoongi was about to stand up, the door swung open with hyejin appearing behind.
she smiled sheepishly at mr. kim, "i'm sorry for being late, sir! my alarm didn't go off earlier - which was strange since i remember setting it yesterday before i went to bed. but! i promise it won't happen again! i'll be extra careful next time so please don't punish me—"
mr. kim couldn't bear to listen any more, "yeah, yeah. at least you're here now. geez, you got yoongi really worried. now go to your seat."
hyejin giggled and quickly scurried to her seat.
and with that, the class resumed with their lesson.
"you were worried about me?" hyejin whisper-asked her seatmate.
"'n-no. i mean, the last time you were late, you were at the rooftop trying to do something. who knows what might've happened this time?" yoongi shrugged it off and looked away.
hyejin smiled, "it's nice knowing someone is genuinely concerned for me."
yoongi ignored her and asked, "for real though, why were you late?"
"i explained to mr. kim earlier, you weren't listening?"
"i don't believe in that."
hyejin chuckled, "why?"
yoongi flipped the pages on his book and began to scribble, "i just know that's not what happened."
hyejin went silent for a while and she seemed to be deep in thought.
yoongi turned to look at her. she looked back and he raised his eyebrow, waiting for an answer.
"nothing happened this time, trust me. it's just... she wasn't satisfied with the breakfast i made for her. and then she threw a tantrum. that's it." she said quietly to make sure nobody listened.
yoongi widened his eyes, "did she hurt you?"
she shook her head vigorously, "no, no. i promise, she didn't."
yoongi stared at her, unconvinced.
she sighed, "she threw some stuff. but she was experiencing a hangover and couldn't aim properly so fortunately i didn't get hit. but other than that, i'm totally fine!"
