Every classroom she walked into, everyone had given her a weird look. Even through lunch, she sat at a table, and they'd gotten up to find another seat. Not even Monty would sit with her, and he was also included in this slander. Her friends would look at her, and as they noticed her look back, they quickly averted their eyes.
She could barely eat her food, tears threatened to spill onto the cafeteria table. She packed her lunch up, and left the cafeteria before anybody could say anything. The bell rang, crowds of students filled the hallways as they scuttled to their lockers before next session. And she noticed Jessica, laughing along with Justin and Sheri. She felt rage, like the fuse in her stomach had gone off, her legs pulling her over to the trio of students.
Before she could even comprehend what she was doing, Jess clutched her cheek in shock. Elizabeth had slapped her. Sheri had backed away, Justin standing in silence. "What the fuck, Elizabeth?"
She didn't return another word before shoving her, Jessica then shoving her back. Elizabeth threw a punch, her fist tingling afterwards; she didn't know if it was the adrenaline or the pain. "You ruined my fucking life." Elizabeth screamed, walking away from the girl on the floor and into her next session.
Zach: So you punched her?
Yes.
Zach: Damn, I'm never messing with you.
Where were you at lunch? I was all alone.
Zach: Bolan wanted Clay and I to clear out some lockers as punishment, instead of detention.
Right. Well I don't know what to do now, all of my friends are looking at me funny. And even Monty won't be around me.
Zach: Have you tried talking to him?
Good idea.
She returned home, luckily before her dad had arrived, giving her time to get upstairs and into her bedroom before she got 200 questions from him. Her heart still hurt from Justin breaking up with her, she didn't know what to do anymore. Not only did she lose him to some stupid rumour, she lost the majority of her friends. Alex won't even look at her, as he's Jess' personal defender.
Justin was hers. And now she has nobody.
So you hear a bullshit rumour and make yourself scarce?
Monty: I can't be around you, especially when this is going around.
Why?
Monty: Because then it suddenly looks true. We've never been seen together alone before, only as a group.
But we both know it's not true, so why?
Monty: Justin, that's why.
What about Justin?
Monty: He said to stay away from you, if I ever go near you, I wouldn't see tomorrow.
He threatened you?
Monty: Please don't tell him. Usually I wouldn't be scared of him but he had a different look in his eyes.
What do you mean?
Monty: When we used to hang out with you both, and we'd do so much as playfully push you, he would just have this look. Like he won't let a fly hurt you.
Oh.
Well he broke up with me.Monty: I'm sorry, Beth. He's an idiot to believe Jess, after everything they went through.
I know, it's still fresh.
Monty: Get yourself up, I'm taking you to Rosie's.
Why?
Monty: I'm sorry for avoiding you today. I put my reputation above your feelings. And you've done so much for me, it's only right I'm there for you. And I don't care what Justin threatens me with, he's the idiot that left you.
Thanks, Monty. I'll be ready in 20.
