7 Ways To Make Someone Smile

1. SMILE AT THEM.

Smiling is contagious. This makes a good impression, because you acknowledge their presence and associate it with positive emotion. Nod upwards and smile to someone you know. Nod downwards and smile to a stranger.

2. COMPLIMENT THEM.

Say something nice about them. Be sincere about it. If you notice that they have recently gotten a haircut, mention it to them. In the midst of a conversation, you can also tell them that you admire their personality. Start from that and let your honest and positive thoughts about them flow into the discussion.

3. SHOW COURTESY.

Greet them. Hold out doors for people. Familiarize yourself with etiquette in situations you mostly find yourself in. This shows that you value people.

4. BE ENGAGED.

When they're speaking, listen to them and nod every once in a while. Know when to ask questions, when to share, and when to just listen. Be alert of opportunities when you could repeat something they said and then say something positive about it. Avoid looking at your phone while talking to them, unless you have to take an important and urgent call. If that would be the case, politely let them know and excuse yourself for a while.

5. BE OBSERVANT.

A simple act of kindness indeed goes a long way. When you see someone feeling sad, you could sit with them and ask about their day -- if there would be anything in particular that they want to talk about. You do not have to tell them that you noticed that they seemed upset. Just be there for them. If you would be in a hurry to somewhere, you can write them a note to let them know you believe in them. If you see someone wearing a shirt with the name of a band you like, you could compliment them by saying they have a nice music taste, or anything of the like.

6. HAVE A PACK OF GUM/CANDIES.

To strike up a conversation, you could ask someone if they would like a piece of gum or some candies. Whether they accept the offer or not, the gesture would be perceived as thoughtful. You would make a good impression in just a simple action.

7. APPRECIATE THEM.

If you cross paths with someone who just recently won something, achieved something, or the like, congratulate them. If someone has done something nice for you, thank them. Gratitude is a gift, and appreciating people is one of the integral skills towards better relationships with people.

Having good relationships with people is also a form of success which heightens your personal fulfillment and gives deeper meaning into your life.
