"caroline jade becker!" jason shouted opening her door with out permission.

caroline's eye immediately opened and she sat up in her bed. her father was standing there, arms crossed and looking pissed.

"why did you not respond to any of my texts last night!?" he said.
"uhm because my phone died." she said rubbing her eyes, still exhausted from the night before.
"don't you lie to me! it tells me you read my message at 2:46 in the morning!"

caroline sighed and put her head into her hands.
"look dad, i'm sorry. i was just super busy last night and i was in a rush to get home. i just wanted to get home safely, ya know, without texting and driving." she said trying to come up with excuses.
"you didn't take your car yesterday."
"yea i know dad. i drove Topper Thornton and Rafe Cameron home because they were intoxicated and couldn't drive, so i had too."
"why were you hanging out with them? especially after what happened with Rafe?"
"i was uh, hanging out with everyone. both groups were there."
"yea right. don't act like i don't know you're lying. tell the truth right now or you aren't seeing jj or anyone else for a month!" he said.

caroline played with the bracelets on her wrists to avoid eye contact.
"fine...." she sighed. "i was hanging out with the pogues and then we went to dinner and then jj and i went surfing but then we finished and uhm," she hesitated. "we then uhm laid down and, looked at the stars, and we accidentally fell asleep on the beach. then we woke up and i started walking home but then topper and rafe drove by and asked if i needed a ride, i said no because they were drunk. but we finally agreed that i could drive, so i drove here and went to bed. ok?" she said finally looking up at her father.

his eyes softened, and he nodded his head and walked over to the side of the bed and sat down.
"caroline...why didn't you just tell the truth in the first place?"
"because dad, i was scared you would get mad."
he sighed. "Line...we don't have the same relationship as we used too. and i know you're getting older and i'm not the only man in your life right now, but i don't want us to drift apart. i love you caroline. so so much. so how about we make a deal?" he paused. "we tell the truth from now on. the both of us."

caroline smiled and nodded her head. "ok" she held out her pinky and he linked his finger around her small one.

"i'm going to work." he said getting up and walking to the door.
"ok, bye."
"oh and caroline..."
"yea?"
"you're grounded for today" he shut her door leaving the girl sitting on her bed dumbfounded.

"fuck." she whispered as she fell back onto her pillows.

she checked her phone and saw the time, 8:34.
the girl was still very tired and decided to go back to sleep.

she woke back up and grabbed her phone. 11:41.
"that's better." she whispered to herself.

the girl got out of bed and brushed her hair. she didn't need to get ready since we wouldn't be going anywhere that day.

she walked downstairs and into the kitchen.
"your dad said you're grounded." jennifer said.
"yea i know." caroline rolled her eyes.
"that means you can't go anywhere or have anyone over."
"yea jennifer! i know what "grounded" means!"
