"The one who follows the crowd will usually get no further than the crowd. The one who walks alone, is likely to find himself in places no one has ever been." – Albert Einstein.
*1 year later*
I was sat just outside the school, waiting for my best friend Edmund Pevensie to arrive. Since we met last year I have grown closer to him and the other Pevensies mainly him though. I'm glad we ran into each other that day, because they've become a second family to me.
While I waited on the steps for my partner in crime, I let my mind drift to the stories I'd been told by the siblings over the past year, of Narnia the magical place they created as children. I have often wondered what it would be like to go somewhere magical like that, if only it were possible, of course. I'd love to explore the world I now knew so much about. Somehow the Pevensie's had so many stories to tell I'd sometimes catch myself believing it was real, the main story of the Great Battle and the White Witch was imprinted in my mind, as if I'd been there myself. It just seemed like they had spent a lifetime doing things there, rather than a phase as children with imaginations, and the way they spoke about it also didn't make it seem like they thought it was made up. But alas it was only fiction. I was broken from my trance by an exasperated Lucy running towards me.
"Arabella, come quickly! We need to find Susan as well!" she rushed out. I rose a brow at her and waited for her to elaborate on the situation. Lucy catching on to my confusion continued, "It's Peter again!" I sighed and rolled my eyes following Lucy. I couldn't believe Peter had got into another brawl. Over the past year he seemed to have developed a sense of superiority, like he was better than everyone here. I didn't bother waiting for Edmund anymore, because I knew where Peter was fighting, Edmund wasn't far behind saving Peter's ass.
We ran over to where Susan was by the newspaper shack talking to this boy with glasses. She looked like she was really annoyed that he was talking to her.
"Susan!" I shouted running just behind Lucy. She did look rather annoyed, like whenever Peter would spoil a book for her before she reached the end.
"You better come quickly!" Lucy breathed out tired of running. Susan didn't need anymore explanation, she dropped the paper and picked up her bag, both us following Lucy to the scene, not bothering to say goodbye to the random guy Susan was talking to. We quickly leapt across the roads, dodging people and cars to get as quickly as possible to the Underground.
We finally reached a crowded hallway of pupils. All of them cheering on a fight in a rhythmic way. Shouldn't they all have better things to do with their lives? We pushed our way through the crowd and I didn't even need to look to know it was Peter. The two other boys had hold of him and were throwing him around the bottom of the stairs. He quickly looked in our direction and lost a bit more of his pride, when he saw the disappointed looks we were giving him.
Edmund appeared at the side of me and quickly passed me his bag. Before I could realise what he was doing, it was too late.
"Edmund!" Lucy shouted trying to prevent her brother from going in, it didn't work.
"Edmund get your ass back here now!" I shouted, trying to sound intimidating, but Edmund was set on helping his brother. He tackled one of the boys to the ground. All of them quickly got thrown towards the track and Peter got kicked a few times.
Suddenly a whistle sounded breaking through the chorusing children, and two soldiers rushed forward pulling the boys off each other. Lucy and I moved backwards to avoid being seen by the obviously ticked off soldiers. Edmund also backed off quickly and a soldier grabbed Peter and told him sternly to act his age.
I made my way closer to Edmund and we all walked towards a bench, setting down our bags. I sat on my bag next to the bench, because it wasn't big enough for the five of us.
"You're welcome." Edmund said plainly as he sat down glaring at Peter. Peter squinted at him and argued,
"I had it sorted!" I scoffed Of course he did, he would be in a worse shape if it weren't for Edmund, as always. Edmund shrank back in his chair glowering at Peter. I quickly leaned up and whispered in his ear,
"At least you had some part of a brain to leave when the soldiers showed up." Edmund playfully hit my shoulder and chuckled to himself shaking his head. Peter stood back up, looking towards the tracks.
"What was it this time?" Susan asked obviously annoyed at the fight. Peter spun around.
"He bumped me." he replied with a lame excuse turning back around.
"So you hit him?" Lucy asked confused to why Peter even needed to fight in the first place. Peter scowled and turned back around to face the group and spoke again,
"No, he bumped me, then he tried to make me apologise, that's when I hit him." I facepalmed.
"Sure that's a perfectly good reason to start a fight." I remarked sarcastically. Susan shook her head disapprovingly at Peter.
"Really? Is it that hard just to walk away." Peter had a fire lit behind his eyes.
"I shouldn't have to!" he fired back. "I mean don't you get tired of being treated like a kid?" Peter asked. Edmund smirked.
"Um, we are kids." He replied cheekily. I pursed my lips to avoid laughing at his comment, in case it drove Peter over the edge, but Edmund knew he had made me smile.
"Well I wasn't always!" Peter spoke in a sharp tone. I looked to him confused. The Pevensies came to a short silence and eyed each other warily exchanging glances that I couldn't decipher. "It's been a year, how long does he expect us to wait?" Peter asked sitting back down with a glum expression. Susan turned further towards Peter and Lucy sat silently looking between the two.
"I think it's time to accept that we live here now, it's no use pretending any different." Susan spoke with a motherly tone. Edmund sighed and moved his hands from his lap to play with a couple of strands of my hair subconsciously, he often played with my hair when he was stressed. I didn't mind though, the gentle movements took my mind off the drama, I had developed a crush on the second youngest Pevensie, at first I thought it was a phase that I would get over, but a year on I have come to accept that I have fallen for him. Hard. I never told anyone of those feelings, of course, but Susan, Peter and Lucy had always suspected it.
Susan looked to her left and saw the same boy from the newspaper stand making his way towards them. "Oh no..." she mumbled. Turning her head away from him.
"What's wrong?" I asked her slight concern lacing my voice on Susan's new worry. Susan snapped her head towards her siblings on the bench.
"Pretend you're talking to me!" she demanded. Lucy's and Peter's head quickly turned to her. Edmund rose his brow.
"We are talking to you." Edmund wittily remarked. I hit his leg with the back of my hand. "Ow!" he said rubbing his knee. I smiled sweetly and innocently at him.
"What?" I asked acting clueless.
"That hurt." he said lightly kicking me in the back with his foot. I just stuck my tongue out in a child like way at him, which he returned. We're so mature.
Susan looked unimpressed and shot a deadpan look at Edmund.
"OW!"
