"You teach people how to treat you by what you allow, what you stop, and what you reinforce." - Christy Wright.
"We wish to speak with Miraz under the flag of peace." I announced to the Telmarine guards confidently. The guards looked at us, then at each other, before leading us to a tent full of Telmarine nobles. Edmund clearled his throat.
"I, Peter, by the gift of Aslan, by lecture and by conquest, High King of Narnia and Emperor of the Lone Islands. In order to prevent the inevitably shed of blood, hereby challenge you, Miraz, to single hand combat, upon the field of battle, the fight will be to the death, the reward total surrender." Edmund read off the parchment, rolling it up once he was done.
"Tell me Prince Edmund-"
"King." I cut in, correcting Miraz.
"Pardon me?" he questioned quietly. Edmund looked at me trying to hide his smile.
"It's King Edmund actually, just King though, Peter's the High King, I know it's confusing." Edmund lectured Miraz.
"Maybe for those of us with small minds." I muttered, glancing at Miraz, but he heard me.
"And who exactly are you?" Miraz asked pointing towards me, with an eye brow raised. I gulped not expecting to be asked the question, but I didn't want to make it seem I was unimportant, by giving my name, so I improvised.
"I am who I am, and I am who I was, and I am who I will always be." I explained, not really giving an answer, but I found it hilarious the way the Telmarines looked at each other in pure confusion. Edmund was trying not to smirk at my witty response.
"That's no answer." Miraz spat after he worked out I told him complete nonsense.
"What other answer is there?" I sassed him. Miraz looked at his advisors, then ignored the whole conversation.
"Why would you risk such a proposal, when our armies, could wipe you out by night fall." he asked, using his arms to try make his point more valid. Edmund stiffened, then looked around the room.
"Haven't you already underestimated our numbers? I mean only a week ago Narnians were extinct." Edmund pushed, vexing Miraz further.
"And so you will be again." Miraz answered stiffly. I was unnerved by the threat, but didn't let it show, as I played with my hands behind my back.
"Well then you should have little to fear." Edmund smartly answered. Miraz laughed loudly.
"This is not a question of bravery." he laughed.
"So you're bravely refusing to fight a swordsman half your age." Edmund pressed, pointing to Miraz with the scroll in his hand. I dug my nails into my palm, to stop myself from bursting into laughter right there. Miraz stopped for a second, before leaning towards us, from his seat.
"I did not say I refused." he almost whispered.
"You shall have our support your majesty, whatever your decision." one of the advisors spoke up. Miraz shot his head towards him, then towards the Lord Sopespian, who was next to him.
"Sire, our military advantage alone, provides the perfect excuse to avoid-" he started, upon hearing this Miraz leapt out of his seat and picked up his sword.
"I'm not avoiding anything." Miraz sharply argued, cutting him off. I let out a breath of relief, thankful that he decided to accept.
"I was just pointing out that my Lord was well within his rights to refuse." the Sopespian explained, gesturing to us with his hands, he was clearly scared.
