I was sitting at the table talking to Ellie about her job and how much fun it was, Ellie was kind of a location scout for TV series and movies filmed in the area, the world of television has always seemed interesting to me.
"Ellie, honey, I'm ready to go when you are," Danna said to her wife, kissing her neck from behind. Ellie gave me a look indicating that it was time to leave. I got up, said goodbye to them with a strong hug, apparently Ana and Andrew were also getting ready to leave.
"Raul, are you leaving as well?" I asked looking at Raul and Blake. I wasn't ready to go yet.
"No, I think we will stay one more hour, we must take advantage of the free booze" he said winking at me as he dragged his girlfriend to continue dancing.
"Um, what happened with Jordan? Why did he leave?" Ana asked me approaching my chair.
"He is not taking our breakup well" Ana opened her mouth so much, that she stuck her jaw to her chest. "We broke up last Friday, I didn't tell you because you weren't here and it wasn't a phone conversation"
"and how are you? You ok? How did it happen?" She asked me rubbing my back.
"Yeah, actually I am. You were right, I wasn't happy and Jordan has shown me a side of him that I don't like at all, but we will talk about this later, I promise to submit myself to your interrogation another day, ok? Let me just keep enjoying this moment" Ana looked at Andrew who was walking towards us with Alex and two bottles of water.
"Ok, just because Andrew is already desperate to leave, but I'm calling you tomorrow, well technically later to plan something, okay?" I nodded, as I hugged her goodbye, I hugged Andrew and looked at Alex expecting her to say goodbye.
"I think I'm going to stay a little longer...if that's ok?" she said looking at me as if waiting for my permission. Ana looked at me with a grimace on her face as Andrew said goodbye to his sister.
We danced for another hour or so, now our circle was smaller, Raul and Blake, Alex and I and two other girls who work at the reception. When Raul and Blake decided it was time to go, I took this as my signal to go too, I was already tired.
"Did you leave your car at the employee or at the guest parking lot?" Alex asked as we grabbed our purses.
"I came with Jordan, but don't worry, I'll take an U B E R" I said clearly pronouncing the word.
We both laughed at this, we took the elevator, that elevator that brought me so many memories, I pressed the letter L to wait for the Uber in the lobby.
"Emma let me just give you a ride, please. Just to say thank you for letting me share this celebration with you... please? That's what friends do for each other" I looked at her and nodded. We were each in a corner of the elevator, watching the numbers change, when the elevator opened in the basement Alex extended her hand as a signal for me to get out first.
"Thanks" I said making a playful bow. Alex laughed out loud, I had missed that sound.
Along the way we talked about the event, about the speeches, about how my interview at the hotel had been when I started working there, anyway, it seemed that Alex wanted to talk about everything except what had happened with Jordan, for which I was infinitely grateful. Until we inevitably reached my building.
"Thank-" we said at the same time, interrupting each other, which caused more giggles.
"Thanks for the ride, Alex, and thanks for coming," I said looking at her, she had a shy smile on her face.
"Thank you for having me and letting me bringing you home" Alex looked at her hands, she seemed like she wanted to say something else, but she didn't.
