Lexie sighed blissfully as she stood beside Nathan and stared out the pool. It was a very beautiful sight. Lexie marveled and wondered about the man beside her. Who was he? She had been very surprised to see him there. Wasn’t this party meant for the influential? She wondered for the second time that night. He obviously knew some of the people there but…well, who was she to talk after all she was just an employee attending her boss’s party? Maybe he was also an employee. She snuck another peek at him. He was still staring out the pool, his hands casually placed in his pockets, his hair tousled by the slight breeze but he didn’t appear to notice. He had a near-to-perfect profile and a body to envy. Not that she had seen him in a state of undress. She blushed at the kind of thoughts his presence invoked in her. What was he doing with her? The question nagged at her. He had helped her on three occasions now. It-

       “So,uh…can I take you home?”

Lexie choked on her saliva. “Um…I cannot impose. I came with a friend. I
can’t just leave”. They walked on. She definitely couldn’t let him know  where she lived. What if her dad was home?

“The woman in the purple gown?I don’t think she is ready to go  anywhere yet”.

Lexie tried to make up another excuse as fast as she could. Was it her fault that her thoughts were scrambled?

Nathan spotted Bailey. “Hey, let’s go ask her”. He tugged on her hand, guiding them towards Bailey who obviously had no intention of leaving anytime soon.

“Lexie! I didn’t see you around”. She grinned while checking out Nathan who stood tall beside her. Lexie never felt comfortable around
men…especially not one as good-looking as this but…my oh my, she looked comfortable around him. Something was familiar about him but she just couldn’t pin-point it. The excess wine she took was probably clouding her senses.

Lexie fiddled with her purse strap as Nathan went straight to business.

“Hey. I wanted to take Alexandra home but she said she came with you. Do you mind if we left together?”

Alexandra silently pleaded with Bailey to refuse but her friend had
other ideas. After all, Lexie needed to get out more. She was so withdrawn
and anti-social, thanks to that god-forsaken father of hers, that it
scared the shit out of her. So, if a man as hot as this showed interest in
her best-friend and wanted to take her home, so be it.

“Oh, I don’t mind. I am not ready to go home yet. Anthony and I have plans” she grinned. “I am sure you understand” she added with a sly
wink at Nathan that he replied with a barely perceptible smile.

Lexie blushed. She was going to deal with Bailey later. She felt his gaze
on her.

“So, shall we?” He asked, giving her the chance to back out if she still
desired.

“Yes”. She went for it. What could it hurt?

“Alright. Come on”. Nathan led her to the Mitsubishi truck. He opened the door for her and waited for her to climb in before he got into
the driver’s side and started the engine. He was driving towards Bailey’s house-Lexie had given him the address-, music playing in the background, a comfortable silence between them when a text message popped onto her phone.
It read ‘You’d better be here in the next ten minutes or I will come
find you’

It definitely could hurt! She remembered her earlier thought when she had allowed Nathan to take her.
