Alexandra shivered in the warm enclosure of the truck. Nathan noticed and increased the intensity of the heat blasting from the heater.

“Are you cold?”. She had paled considerably.

Lexie barely managed a nod.“Uhm…could you please drop me at the
junction where I got off last time instead? I have to go home”.Her voice
quivered.

Nathan swerved and parked. He looked at her fully. “ Are you alright?
You look very….pale”

Lexie pulled her feelings in check. “Yes. Why wouldn’t I be?” She
countered with a question of hers, hoping he would take the hint and keep on driving. No such luck!

Nathan frowned. “Maybe it is because of that text message you received?”  What the hell was going on in her life? He had seen the fear in her eyes before she had expertly disguised it.

“It was nothing. Can you take me home or do I get a cab?” Her voice was flat. She didn’t want to sound so defensive but she had  just realized
Nathan was the kind of person that could fish things out with questions.

Nathan reached over, cupping her cheeks so she could look right at him. Her skin was cold. “I am sorry if I got you more upset but I just want to know if you’re really alright”

Lexie didn’t want to…no, couldn’t afford to give into the warmth that
seeped into her bones at his gentle words. She took a deep breath. “I am
fine, Nathan. I don’t need an analyst”

Nathan released her and shifted gears. “Fine” he muttered.

They got to the junction but Nathan refused to stop. He edged forward
despite Lexie’s protests to stop.

“Come on.Stop! We are already here” she cried out. She was going to
be in deep soup.

Nathan didn’t pay attention. “I am going to make absolutely sure you get
to your house and there is nothing you can do about that. Just point out
the house”.

Defeated, Lexie pointed out her house. She jumped down from the truck before he had a chance to kill the engine. “Please, leave immediately”. She hurried up the stairs, not giving him the opportunity to say goodbye, turned the door handle. It was locked. She knocked. What game was he playing at?  The door opened and she was drawn inside by her hand as
Nathan was not completely gone from sight. He wouldn’t want to make a
bad impression, would he?

Once inside, he slapped her so hard she hit her head against the door.
She felt the blood trickling down the side of her face. Her dad kicked a
chair away. He was in a rage. Lexie still stood by the door, fearing what
was going to come next.

Nielson moved over to her again, dragged her by the hair and
delivered a kick to her stomach. Lexie crumpled in a heap on the floor. He
hunkered down to her level and pulled her hair such that her eyes were level with his. Goddammit! She had her damned mother’s eyes. “So, you think you can waltz out of my house anytime you want?” He slapped her again. “You bitch. So, now you are with the younger men, huh? I thought
you only did older men. You are just like that other bitch, so lost and
always eager for attention with your ugly as fuck faces”. Calmer now- Lexie could never predict hismood swings- he trailed a finger down her
red cheek. “So, tell me, how much does he service you?”.His finger trailed lower…and lower.

Bile rose in her throat. Why did he always think the worst about her?
She swallowed another sob.

      “Answer me!” he roared.

“He is not my lover. We just met and he offered to take me home. There’s nothing going on.” She barely got the words out of her mouth when Nielson dragged her by the hair again and threw her on a table, causing it to topple to the floor. He drew his belt from his pants in one
fluid motion.

“Please,Daddy.” Lexie begged and begged. Tears falling unheeded
from her face.

Nielson advanced. “I am your father and what I say you must do. You
have been a very naughty daughter and it is my responsibility to ensure you are on the right path”. He brandished his belt as he advanced forward, backing Lexie against the wall. There was no escape for her. She was stuck.

Her screams echoed through the house as the belt played havoc on her
senses.

********************************
Nathan, who was still in the truck on a phone call, stilled as he heard that
blood-curling scream. He disconnected the call, waiting to see if the neighbours would check on the noise but nobody stirred. What the hell was going on?He wondered as he thought of Lexie again. He was about to check on her when he stopped in his tracks. What was she to him anyway? It was not like he had any special feelings for her or something. After all, she had already told him off. With that thought, he shifted the gears and drove
home.
