Vingt-quatre - Twenty-Four
Eden remembered. It took him a moment, waking up in his bed with a groggy head and fuzzy memory. The first thing he did was rub at his face, trying to wipe the tiredness from his eyes. Then he climbed out of bed, stumbling around a bit out of exhaustion and due to his unrelenting headache.
He took a piss, doing what he always did and avoiding the mirror. Eden knew that he must have reeked of alcohol, and he seriously needed a shower to fix that, but he just wanted to lay down for a few more moments. It was Sunday after all, and he just wanted a little while in bed.
As soon as he laid back down, he moved his hand up to his hair, going to scratch where he had an itch. What he felt instead, was softness. It took him a moment to process that. He had to continuously run his finger through it, trying to remember just why the hell his hair felt so different.
That was when Eden sat back up and exited his room. He rushed into the bathroom, flicking the light on and staring at himself in the mirror.
His heart raced as several emotions ran through his bloodstream. He ran his hands over his head repeatedly, trying to understand why suddenly all of the tangles were gone. Eden was beyond shocked and confused. But apart of him was relieved. Like one of the many problems resting on his shoulders had disappeared.
It was messy from having just been slept on, and nor was it completely perfect, but God did it still feel nice. He simply couldn't stop touching it, feeling the hair that had been hidden away for months due to the fact that he couldn't bring himself to even bother caring about it anymore.
Staring at it, Eden felt his eyes begin to fill with water. Why was he being so emotional over something so stupid? He blinked away the tears. Suddenly he was ready to shower immediately, because the idea of washing any grease from his freshly untangled hair seemed so appealing. Like he was taking another step in the right direction.
However, just as Eden came to that beautiful revelation, he also realized that something must have happened last night while he was drunk. It took only a few seconds for Eden's eyes in the mirror to go wide as he remembered just what had caused that.
Fay. Lafayette Dubois. The boy that Eden had spent so much time attempting to push away was the one who did that.
He remembered it all. The mysterious kiss that Fay had left on his lips before they took things further. He remembered every word they exchanged. When Fay hurried out of the room only to return with a comb and spray bottle. When he asked Eden if he could help him with his hair. And of course, when Eden nodded.
However, that wasn't where it ended. Eden knew that he had begun to cry and that Fay had hugged him in order to comfort him. Still staring in the mirror, Eden silently wrapped his arms around himself, thinking about the way that it felt when Fay did so. It felt nice.
The bags beneath his eyes were what brought him out of his thoughts. He must not have come home until very late last night. Four in the morning? Five? He didn't know, nor did he know how he got there. After Fay had finished brushing his hair out, which must have taken at least over an hour, they parted ways.
After that, he couldn't seem to remember the rest of his night.
Finally deciding that he had enough of his own face, Eden closed the previously open bathroom door and stripped down. The shower water was scolding hot at first, so warm that it nearly burnt his pale, white skin.
He glanced down briefly, eyes making contact with the thin white scars on the bottom half of his legs. Some of them seemed to fade away with time, but others never seemed to want to leave. Like the pair of crooked ones at the very bottom of his ankles.
