 Keaton’s P.O.V

“I think you’re going to have to get the bus this morning. Shawn isn’t well and isn’t going to work.” Ophelia said

I nodded, grabbing my cereal from the cupboard. “That’s fine, I rather catch the bus. Less chance of dying,”

Ophelia laughed, before hastily slapping her hand over her mouth as Shawn walked in. He walked in clad in pyjamas and dressing gown.

Shawn’s eyes scanned over us warily. “What’s going on?” He asked as his voice cracked. Shawn cleared his throat while walking to a seat.

“Nothing…”

“Keaton come and play Minecraft with me!” Leyton cried, running towards me. “C’mon I made a hunger games arena.”

I shook my head “I can’t sorry.”

“Why?” He asked turning his big doe eyes onto me.

I instantly started to feel guilty that I couldn’t stay to play. I don’t even know why I was feeling guilty. I think it had something to do with his eyes.

“Keats has got to get the bus today.” Ophelia tried explaining.

“It won’t take long. I promise.” He begged, getting on his knees.

“Leyton, take no as answer.” Shawn said was as much authority as usual. He sure didn’t seem ill. Shawn was probably pretending so he could stay home with Ophelia.

“I’m going to get going. Bye!” I yelled, hoisting my backpack onto my back.

“No need to shout Keats.” Ophelia chided. “He has spent too much time around Leyton already.” She mumbled, not so, incoherently under her breath.

I chuckled quietly to myself as I shut the front door.

“Keaton! Keaton!” A voice yelled.

I stopped my tracks, looking around for the source of the voice. Shining blonde hair greeted me. Hayden.

“Hey.”

“Are you going to college today?” He asked, coming to a stop in front of me.

“Yeah…” I trailed off.

I thought it was obvious that I would go to college. I don’t think I would ever do what he does. I would go crazy.

“Oh…” He replied, digging his shoes into the grass.

“How come you asked?” I inquiring, watching his shoes make a dent in the perfectly cut grass.

“I was…you...bunk off…with me.” He mumbled incoherently, staring at the floor.

I stared at him in confusion. Hayden slowly lifted to head to face me again, once he realised I wasn’t answering.

“Repeat please.”

“I was hoping you would bunk off with me.” He asked once again.

I paused thinking it over. It couldn’t hurt, could it? It was only theory, which I could catch up with easily. It was really just textbook stuff anyway.

A smile tugged at my lips, “O.K, I’ll stay off with you.” Hayden smiled too, pulling his sleeves down on t-shirt. “How are you wearing that in the mid-summer?”
