Keaton’s P.O.V

I took a deep breath before knocking on the caramel oak door.

I heard ‘I got it’ and footsteps thudded down the stairs. The door swung open and revealed a slightly dishevelled looking Reuben. He stood their slightly bemused. “Oh, hi Keaton,”

I lifted my hand and did a small wave. “Hey. I came to say sorry for dashing off yesterday. I hope your mum doesn’t think I’m rude.” I explained, peering round behind Reuben, to see if his mum was there.

Reuben stepped in the way of my vision. “I think she didn’t think any of it Eyas.” He reassured, ruffling his hair at the nape of his neck.

I bowed my head a little bit. It always made me slightly embarrassed when he called me that. I hiked my penny board higher my arm. “O.K I’m glad. I better get going.”

Reuben’s eyes locked onto to my penny board, before I turned away. “You take that thing everywhere do you?” He questioned, eyes flickering to the red penny board.

I nodded enthusiastically, “The best way to spend the day.” I replied.

“If it is; why don’t you show me how to use it then?” He said cheekily, giving me a smile.

“O.K,” I said simply.

Reuben did a double take. I found it hilarious that he thought I wouldn’t show him. Of course, I would. Penny boarding was my one and only hobby. Sad I know. So of course, I wouldn’t mind spending all day doing it.

Moreover, if Reuben and I ever go anywhere together in the future, it would be easier. As we could both penny board, rather than Reuben walking.

“Ready to go?”

Reuben slipped on his vans, before shutting the door behind him. “I think I will take him to a park further away.” He mumbled quietly to himself.

“Who’s the teacher here?” I said playfully, breaking his reverie.

Reuben shook his head but started to walk anyway. I put my board on the pavement and looked towards Reuben. He stared blankly at me, before he realised what I was implying.

“No.”

“C’mon Reuben,”

“No way! I’ll fall on my face.”

“Then it will be worth it for me.” I shot back, laughing.

It’s a shame Reuben didn’t find it so funny. He stood motionless with an unimpressed look plastered over his face.

Slowly, I bent down and picked up my penny board. “Fine have it your way, mister boring.” I shot back, testing the waters.

Reuben turned to glare at me. “Sometimes you really remind me of someone. I just can’t put my finger it on.” He said pensively.

I stared at him for brief seconds. I wonder who remotely looks like me, who Reuben knows. Though my mum always says ‘It’s a small world’, which always seemed to come into effect. No matter the situation.

“That’s a little creepy.” I replied.

Reuben cracked a small smile, eyes glinting mischievously. “You know what?” I shook my head, baffled. “I wanna try and skate here.” He said, standing still to prove a point.”

“Right here?”

“Right here.”

“O.K you asked for it. If you fall off you can’t blame me.” I said quickly, placing my board on the pavement once again.
