"Mom! What a surprise?!" I said with an unmatching smile walking into the kitchen and seeing my mom and Ash sitting at the kitchen isle.
"Well I was in the neighborhood and decided to stop by to see how my lovely daughter is doing." she said calmly beyond awkward.
"Yeah skip forward to the actual reason you came here, mom." I squinch my eyes crossing my arms stopping in front of her.
"Your mom can't just come to see you out of love?" Ashton's two cents budded in.
"No, unfortunately, that's not her memo. Mom, talk." I turn my head from Ashton to my mom
"Okay, fine. Your uncle came into town and you know how he's successful and what not, well I lied to him and said your fiance is a famous musician and that you live in a $2 million dollar house with a promising career in songwriting." she ended on that note with a nervous smile.
"Mom, you're joking...Why would you tell him that?! I have none of what you just described!! You do realize that right?!" I nervously ran my fingers through my hair.
"Well, technically you do live in a 2-"
"Ash, 2 more cents...just two more cents." I interrupted him and his eyes widened with a sigh as he walked off.
"Mom, would it kill you to just tell the truth once in your life? Also, why couldn't you just tell me this over the phone?!" I leaned my back against the isle.
"Well, your uncle is sleeping over at my house in your old room for the night until he gets a hotel and he won't stop complaining about the house and bragging on everything is just better wherever he's been, so I had to get out. Also, he wants to see you and hang out all day with you tomorrow." She rested her head in her palm as her arm stood on the isle.
"As fun as that sounds, fortunately, I have a date tomorrow then after I have to be back here asap because I do have a job." I unfolded my arms thinking about how Colson hasn't called nor text me about a date since the shop. I walked to the fridge.
"Well if your date is with Ashton I'm sure he wouldn't mind you visiting family." she smirked with her eyes widening.
"Who said anything about Ashton? No, it's this guy I met at the coffee shop today, he asked me on a date." I smile a bit hearing the thought that it's a date.
"Well, I just thought you'd help me out in convincing your uncle that you are dating an A-lister." She tried to convince me to feed into her lies but it wasn't happening.
"Well it was nice of you to stop by mom, but it is getting late." I begin to walk towards the door to get her out of here before she decides on a guilt card.
"The day your brother comes home, I'll finally have a child to brag on." She grabbed her purse and got up to walk to the front door.
I laughed it off as I walked behind her. Growing up hearing her compare me nonstop to my older brother or just flat out deteriorate me as a person, was the worst thing ever but you know she's done it so much I just brush it off. The day she brought me here I actually took it into consideration just to get away from her.
My mom turned around and stopped in front of the front door with a face of disappointment.
"I can't wait until the day you actually are ready to become someone in life." she turned around and walked out the door and I slammed the front door and locked it, leaning my back against the door and sliding down onto the floor. So much frustration clouded my thoughts about me and my mother's relationship.
Footsteps come from down the stairs and I quickly get up.
"Your mom's gone?" Ash asked.
"Yes, she is actually. Ash I have something to ask you please say yes."
