As we enter the top floor, we all explain a few things to Margo and Alexia, then they take off to there rooms to shower, and shortly after Vita disappears, followed by Chastity, leaving me and Helios to sit at the dining table. We wait for about twenty minutes, chatting about useless Capitol things, before I get up and grab his hand.
"Come on," I say, dragging him up and towards the stairs.
We make it up to the roof, and I quickly check for cameras before grabbing Helios and kissing him.
"I missed you so much," Helios says.
"You have no idea," I reply, smiling.
We resume the kiss.
"Wait, Kolton, somebody could catch us up here," he says.
"Come on, Helios, it's been a year since we've seen each other. I'm sorry if I'm a little bit excited to see you," I tell him.
We once again resume the kiss.
"Seriously though," Helios look me in the eyes, "We have to be careful. You have your 'reputation' to uphold, we can't get caught," he says.
"God, don't remind me," I say, rubbing my temples.
Ever since I won my games, damn near twenty years ago now, I've been used by the government. President Snow brought me an ultimatum during my victory tour, either let me sell you off to a few adoring fans each year or I kill your sister. Lindsay was three years younger than me, and when the President first talked to me about it, I said no. I thought I could protect her. But that year at the reaping, her name was chosen. I knew the President had rigged the reaping somehow, so when we got to the Capitol, I told her I would do as she asked, hoping there was some way she could save her. She didn't. Every year since then, I've spent my nights in the Capitol with the richest women that wanted to buy me. I don't even like women.
Then, about 8 years ago, Helios signed on as the stylist for District Twelve. We only see each other for about a month out of the year, but we fell in love. And we fell hard. He had been offered other Districts, since he's so good at his job, but he refused every time. For me.
"Do you have anyone tonight?" Helios asks.
"Yeah, tonight and tomorrow night. Same girl, and that's all I've been told so far," I reply, "I fucking hate the Capitol."
We sit down and he wraps an arm around me. It takes everything in me to keep from crying. We sit like this for about twenty minutes before I remember dinner.
"We should probably head downstairs. One at a time, just in case somebody's down there," I say.
"I'll go first," Helios says solemnly. He kisses my cheek then stands and walks away.
I follow after a few minutes, already hearing Chastity shouting about something and the clinking of plates.
God, give me strength, I think to myself as I put on a smile and enter the dining room.
