We walk over the dock connecting fall and summer right before sunset and are able to find a place to camp at towards the edge of the island. We decide to sleep up in a wide tree, although neither of us are able to sleep very well. When the moon lights up with the tribute count, all eight of the newly dead's faces flash up. The only ones left now are from District Two and Six, along with Isaac from Five and us. In the morning, we quickly eat and drink a little bit before climbing down and setting off towards the center of the island.
"Let's take a break, Lexi, we've been walking for a while," Margo says, sitting on a low hanging but sturdy branch.
"Alright," I say quietly, taking a sip of water.
We sit and rest for a few minutes before hearing rustling up in the trees. I see Margo get up and grab a rock for the slingshot. She shoots it directly up into the two trees above us, garnering an 'ow' from someone up in the trees.
"Unless you're from District Two, we don't want to kill you," Margo yells out.
A small face peeps out through some leaves, before quickly disappearing. We can hear chattering between two people, ending with what sounded like a smack to the face, before two small kids shimmy down a tree.
"Six?" Margo asks.
"Twelve," Casey greets us with a nod.
"Hi," I say, waving.
"Hi," Carter responds.
We stand awkwardly for a moment before Casey moves a little bit closer.
"We're really sorry about your alliance members. We saw the death count last night and assumed that you guys had a fight with the Careers," she says.
"Thank you," I say.
"So only you guys and Two got out?" Carter asks, timidly stepping up to be next to his sister.
"Two wasn't there," Margo says, "They split off from the others, we don't know why. Or where they are."
"That's comforting," Casey says sarcastically.
"Well, in any case, have you guys just been hanging out in the trees this whole time?" I ask.
"Yeah! We ransacked the extra cornucopia – did you guys know that there's an extra cornucopia? – and then stuck to this side of the island, up in the trees. The other half is desert-like conditions and heat, and up that way is a cliff that leads down to a small cove." Carter rambles out.
"We think that there's actually a cornucopia on all of the islands, there was one on fall too," Margo says, patting her pack.
"Cool," Casey says, "So like, are we going to stick together now or..."
"I don't know," I respond.
"I'd like too, if you guys would," Carter says.
"I'd like that," Margo says, nodding.
"It's settled then," Casey says, "We can be a team."
