"Seungmin! Go wake up Huijun and make sure he gets to school. I'm headed off to work now."
"Yes eomma. Have a good day."
With that, Seungmin rushed to his and his brother's room. Huijun was still fast asleep. Seungmin sighed before dragging the blankets off a sleeping Huijun. Instead of fussing, Huijun rubbed his eyes and made his way towards the bathroom. He locked the door then turned on the shower. Meanwhile, Seungmin rushed to his side of the room to put his uniform on. He had no idea how today was going to treat his younger brother. Huijun became mute after his childhood best friend Park Ji-Tae passed away. He felt as if he couldn't speak until eventually, he gave up on talking altogether. It's difficult for everyone around him to accommodate his needs and Seungmin often worries that one day, someone will be tired of him and do something bad.
"Huijun, Seongjun will be taking us to school. He'll be with his brother Junhyuk. You know them and don't need to worry. Once we get to school, I'll be right by your side. We'll get breakfast there. Eomma put the note you'll give to your teacher in your bag. Remember, this day will be over before you know it and take deep breaths when you start to feel anxious. In through the nose and out through the mouth. Nod your head if you understand me." Seungmin said once the boys were ready to go.
Huijun nodded letting his hyung know he understood everything he said.
"Junhyuk, you got bigger." Seungmin exclaimed once everyone was in the car.
"I can see you haven't grown much, you small bean." Junhyuk sarcastically fired back.
Both boys laughed for a while before Junhyuk turned his attention to his hyung.
"Are we almost there hyung? I need to pee really bad."
Seungmin laughed. He was in a good mood. On the other hand, Huijun was taking deep breaths. Going back to school freaked him out. He knew his hyung wasn't going to be there by his side the whole day.
Seongjun rushed a little and before the boys knew it, they were in front of the school. Junhyuk jumped out of the car and rushed his way to the bathroom. Seongjun and Seungmin just laughed as they watched Junhyuk dodge everyone in his way. Huijun took his time getting out of the car. He held onto the sides of the car and flinched when Seongjun locked the doors.
"Huijun, I'm right here. Come, let's go get breakfast." Seungmin said, reassuring Huijun that it'll be okay.
Huijun fake smiled at Seungmin then followed the boys inside the school closely behind. He felt as if all eyes were on him like something was on his face. Due to feeling like that, he kept his head down. Only wishing for the day to be over.
Once the bell rang, Huijun panicked. He felt his head spin then felt a pair of hands grab his arm.
"Remember, deep breaths. One foot in front of the other. I'll meet you for lunch so please don't wander around." Seungmin told Huijun as he took him to class.
Huijun waved Seungmin off, handed his teacher the note, then rushed to the back of the class.
"Huijun, come here." His teacher demanded.
Huijun reluctantly made his way back to the front of the class with his head down. A few students giggled and one decided to put his foot in Huijun's path. Huijun stepped over the student's foot but the student raised his foot, causing Huijun to fall face first. The teacher just watched and waited for Huijun to get up. Once Huijun was at the teacher's desk, the teacher grabbed Huijun's arm and dragged him outside the classroom.
"Huijun, is this supposed to be a joke? You were talking fine the years prior and now all of a sudden you can't speak? I will not take this behavior. I'll be in contact with your parents so don't feel like you're getting away with this. If you won't talk during this year, I won't have any problem flunking you. Now get your act together No Huijun." The teacher rudely remarked before fixing her collar and heading inside the classroom with Huijun in her grip.
"Go sit down, if you don't speak, I sure hope you can write down notes." She huffed, letting Huijun head to his seat.
Huijun took a different route to his seat to avoid the student who tripped him. Once he was in his seat, he put his head down.
"No Huijun! I said pay attention!" The teacher yelled from across the room.
"Well she's rude." A voice said.
Huijun looked up to see a boy he's never seen before sitting to his right. Huijun just nodded not thinking the boy would speak again but to his surprise, he did.
"My name's Minjae. Song Minjae. I'm actually new to this school. Do you want to be friends No Huijun?" Minjae asked cheerfully.
Huijun got out a piece of paper and started to write something. He handed the paper to Minjae.
"How do you know my name? Well the teacher did yell it across the room for everyone to hear." Minjae said, answering Huijun's question.
Huijun nodded and started writing down notes in fear of the teacher calling him out again.
"So, friends?" Minjae asked.
Huijun hesitated for a bit. He didn't want to turn down Minjae because he was the only person being nice to him. Choosing to be nice, Huijun nodded yes to the boy.
