"Attention students! We will be having an open mic on the last day before winter break. You will get extra credit for participating. Start practicing now as it is in a month's time. Have a good rest of your day." The principal announced over the intercom.
Huijun planned on singing for the open mic. He wanted to show his improvements with his voice. He just wished his voice would be ready by then. Since no one knew about him practicing with his voice, he planned on keeping that a secret until that day arrived.
"So you going to help me plan Junhyuk's birthday party?" Seongjun asked Seungmin.
"His birthday isn't for another four weeks. How big are you planning to start this early?" Seungmin responded.
"Look, I can tell all the stress of proving Huijun as innocent is affecting all of us. I figured that we could take a break here and there while preparing for my brother's birthday."
Seungmin thought for a minute before agreeing with Seongjun.
While Ms. Park wasn't looking, Huijun passed a note to Minjae.
"Are you going to do the open mic?" Minjae read in his head.
Thinking for a second, Minjae looked at Huijun then wrote a response. Just as he was going to pass it to Huijun, a loud student near the back yelled "Huijun and Minjae are passing notes!". All the students turned and started laughing. Ms. Park rolled her eyes and groaned before making her way to the back to collect the note.
"Are you going to do open mic? Maybe, but I wish you could since I still want to hear your voice." She giggled and tore up the note and tossed it in the trash.
"If you guys are gay just come out already." A student shouted causing some students to laugh while others made gagging noises.
Both boys seemed a little hurt. Not because they were being called gay but because some students had the audacity to joke about it.
"Calm down class. No Huijun, move to the front of the class now!"
Huijun grabbed his things hesitantly then slowly walked to the front of the class. Once he sat down, Ms. Park continued teaching the lesson.
"Excuse me class, I need to make a call. Please, no messing around." Ms. Park announced before heading out the classroom.
As soon as she closed the door, students got up and started chatting to friends. Being a little afraid, Huijun decided to just put his head down. Minjae looked around the classroom just absorbing all the chatter. He ended up focusing on a student behind Huijun. He was texting someone. He let out a mischievous laugh before nodding at a few students. A group of five boys stood up after he did. Two boys walked up to Huijun. One decided to grab Huijun by his hair and slammed his face on his desk while the other kneed Huijun in the guts, causing Huijun to tip out of his desk. Minjae got up but three boys pushed him back down. One student pulled one of Minjae's chair legs which led to Minjae to move forward, hitting his head on the desk then collapsing to the ground. With both Minjae and Huijun on the ground, students started joining in on kicking their ribs. At least two students started recording the beatings. The student who got the text from earlier, nodded at his friends. Everyone stopped what they were doing and sat back down, leaving Huijun and Minjae laying on the floor bleeding. Just a minute later, Ms. Park entered the room and thanked the class for being well behaved.
Ms. Park left the boys laying on the floor for the rest of class knowing they were both in pain. They weren't unconscious. She made jokes about them throughout class while all Minjae and Huijun could do was listen. Fifteen minutes before class was over, she made some students drag them to the back then called the ambulance. She grinned as the ambulance made it to the school a minute after the final bell rang. Students from all grades watched as Minjae and Huijun were taken to the hospital.
Seungmin was on his way to get Huijun when he noticed a crowd gathered in the hall. Confused, he made his way to the front of the crowd. He felt a tap on his back and saw Junhyuk holding two backpacks.
"It's Minjae and Huijun. They just got dragged out to the ambulance." Junhyuk said.
Seungmin rushed his way to the front of the school. Just like Junhyuk informed him, it was Minjae and Huijun. He continued running until he caught up.
"That's my brother and his friend! May I know what happened?" Seungmin asked a paramedic.
"A few injuries. Not sure how severe they are. Please go to this hospital with a legal guardian with you." The paramedic said rushing to get into the ambulance.
Seungmin had tears in his eyes. Junhyuk was right behind him. Seungmin called Seongjun to hurry up to drive him to go get his eomma.
