Hayden Evans

People often assumed I was an orderly, controlled man, but I wasn't. Refusing to be a wanker who paraded amid chaos, I relented to my internal chaos, always putting up a facade of order and calmness. So even when I felt anger, I never showed it out.

I wasn't angry now. I was livid because Zinche had touched Spitfire. The bastard had lured her into dancing and had kissed her. He had only kissed her cheek, but still, he had done it. It was a wild madness, the urge to kill him was very vehement, but I had to rein in control, not show cracks in my calmness.

Zinche liked to play games. Like any psychopath, he wanted to win every fucking time. Ryan, Erika and I had botched his project in our university days, so the bastard held onto vengeance and tested my limits now and then.

I should kill him for touching her. But he had dirt over Theodore Faerber, and I would trade that dirt for a mine of Rhodium.

"What do you have to offer, Evans?" Zinche's face was bland. He had a habit of calling people by their last name so that they would call him by his last name.

"Rumour is your new experiment needs a generous amount of funds. Humour me, Zinche. How much do you need?" I enquired, knowing funding Zinche's experiments would result in a bio war. He was notoriously known for his psychopathy, and I wouldn't be surprised if he graced our world with a pandemic.

My eyes ranged over his foyer. Somewhere in the corner, I could see black heels discarded on the carpet. On the table near the pillar, I found a pair of earrings beside a candle. I was no fool to entertain the idea of Zinche liking candles or earrings. This place had a feminine touch.

Interesting.

"You can't buy me, Evans. Nobody can." His eyes roved over my head, tracing the movement of someone in the garden. From my periphery, I could make out a woman. A woman who had Zinche's attention.

Very interesting.

Now was my time for retaliation.

"You forget the hierarchy, Zinche." My eyes tracked the Zippo lying beside the candle. "Tell me, what's your price?"

His mouth cut into a wicked line. "Ten million for a word."

Too much price for a few words. Bastard.
