The next day, which is Friday
Everyone was just trying to get through the day, it was the second day of school and some were already stressed. Betty, on the other hand, wasn't stressed about school work she was more stressed about a certain red-haired boy who sat just a couple feet away from her at the lunch table. The table was crowded as usual, which bother Betty. It included Toni, Cheryl, Fangs, Sweet Pea, Jughead, Kevin, Reggie, Mad Dog, Veronica, and Archie. She would have Kevin on one side and Jughead on one, while seating across from Veronica, Reggie, and Archie.
"So everyone has to be there by 8:30 and Reggie you've got drinks right?" Veronica stated then asked. She was going over everything for the party tonight.
"Hell yeah Ronnie! Ima be bring the best there is!" Reggie announced. Betty and Jughead rolled their eyes as everyone else at the table cheered on.
"Hopefully with some chaos as well, Riverdale is getting a bit dull." Cheryl noted with a hint of complaining in her voice.
"It has been a bit quite as it not?" Kevin agreed.
"I think that the quitness is exactly what Riverdale needs right now," Jughead addimited, he added on to say, "you know, maybe a little break."
"Yeah, I agree with Jug guys, maybe this is what we need, you know, to actually have fun our senior year." Archie explained.
"You are 100% right Archiekins! We is exactly why we should all have the best time of our lives at this party! We're all going to be with our best friends and drink all night!" Veronica gushed.
Betty was quite all during lunch and the only ones who even cared to notice was Kevin and Jughead. Well, that's who Betty believes are the only ones who noticed. She was able to catch their eyes in the corner of her very own. Being able to see the concern looks through their eyes. She tried her best to avoid any kind of contact with Archie. He was able to see that she was avoiding him and it angryed him so much that he got up to the vending machine just to text Betty.
Archie
What's wrong?
Betty read the text on her phone and looked up to Archie who looked at her for a split second then turned his head, trying to make sure no one would suspect anything. She shook her head and got up.
"Hey B, where you going?" Veronica questioned.
"Uh, just going to the Blue and Gold, I have to finish up some article for the newspaper." Betty rambled on.
"You want some help with that?" Jughead suggest already getting his stuff together.
"No,no,no, it's fine Jug. I'll see you guys later, okay?"
Jughead nodded his head questionably, but decided to let it go.
"I'll text you before the party." Veronica stated.
Betty smiled and nodded her head as she waved goodbye to everyone at the table. She tried to walk fast without suspicion and certainly felt Archies eyes on her. He was going to go follow her, but when he was about to make his way he hears a pair of heels clinkly against the cafeteria floors. Archie turns and sees Veronica smiling at him and walking towards him.
"Everything okay Archie?" She asked confused not knowing what was up with him lately.
"Yeah, everything is fine. I actually just remembered that I needed to talk to Coach about something. I'll catch up with you later okay" Archie babbled on.
He kissed her on her lips quickly and ran back to the table to grab his lettermen jacket and walked out of the cafeteria. Veronica stood there stunned, not being able to figure out what was going on with Archie, but decided to just let it go.
Archie began to look around the school for Betty, when it hit him where she would be. The only place you can find her if not in the student lounge area. He walked up to the Blue and Gold noticing the door closed, he tried to look in the small window, but it was covered by some shades. His hand went to the door knob and it opened. Archie walked in to see Betty looking up to see who it was.
"What are you doing here?" Archie hissed. Looking at Bettys face Archie couldn't tell if she was angry or confused or even maybe a good mixture of both.
"What am I doing here? Last time I checked I was the one that was a part of the Blue and Gold, and you were the jock. Go back to the locker room."Betty snapped.
"Hold up, you're mad at me?"
Betty scoffed and shook her head. She began, "Okay, Archie, play the victim here and act like you have no idea what's going on." She walked pasted him and to the door when Archie grabbed her by her arm.
"Wait, Betty" She looked down at his hand on her arm and he slowly let go. Archie then continued, "Maybe I'm acting as if I have no idea what's going on is because Betty if I am being completely honest with you,I don't"
"Archie-"
"No, Betty, whatever is happening right now is confusing and I know I am not the only one confused, I know you are too. We never really liked each other and now all of a sudden things are different."
"Why?! Tell me Archie why are things different now!"
"I don't know Betty! That's what I'm trying to figure out."
"Well, while you figure that out how about you stop with the little slick remarks, the stares, and everything else you've been doing to me! Leave me alone!" She yelled at him, which took him back a little if he was being honest.
"Betty......trust me I've tried, I just- I- I don't think I can" Archie admitted.
Betty was now in shock, she couldn't handle this right now. She shook her head at Archie which only left his farce with a worried looked, he was right about to grab her hand when she flung open the door and practically ran out. Archie was left standing there with a sad/worried/angry look. He walked out of the Blue and Gold and to his next class.
Little did Archie and Betty know someone was right around the corner.
