This is the gaiety of life I own:
Been given and will be taken away,
So to live is to die, and die, alone.Through four-bordered land where I am hone,
Lived a home, whom in a lifetime will stay;
This is the gaiety of life I own.Here, a better half who will cry in clone—
Who will treasure me, at most, ev'ryday
Yet to live is to die, and die, alone.Feeding my desires syne I'm erelong grown,
Sketch, paint, write, compose—doing it my way:
This is the gaiety of life I own.Hearkening to the placid sound mine own
Savoured the darkness in bed, where I lay,
But to live is to die, and die, alone.Howbeit, He who saves through blood cologne,
To be with Him is all I pray;
This is the gaiety of life I own,
Thus, to live is to die, and die, alone.~ Savvy - _ -
ENDNOTES
Villanelle
noun
: is a specific poetic form that uses repeated lines and strict rhyming pattern throughout its 19 lines, which are grouped into five tercets (with ABA) and a final quatrain with an ending couplet (meaning, the last two lines should rhyme) resulting to an ABAA rhyme scheme; however there isn't a specific length or meter, though many poets use iambic, in individual lines. Moreover, they have a lyrical quality to them, creating a song-like poem with their structured lines. (Masterclass, 2020)
