Chapter 4
I let out a giant gasp and rapidly sit up straight.
Breathe, I tell myself.
That was the worst experience I’ve ever had. The sting of the needle and the feeling of it being lodged down into my arm is still there but I know I’m safe.
I don’t know where.
I don’t know how.
But I’m safe.
I can’t really see anything but if I could, the room would be spinning because I have that feeling of dizziness and my head aches...still.
The lights turn on and I almost jump. I see Alicia standing at the doorway with a worried look on her face, "Thank goodness you're alright!" she says, "Don't worry, we're safe here."
I'm comforted by the way she sounds, she makes me feel safe. "What happened," I ask. I really can't remember everything. All I remember is the needle being plunged into my arm and the look on Dr. Anderson's face as he was doing it.
"Well..." she says. "I...I wish I would've told you this earlier but I didn't know exactly what was going on or what was happening at the time...but now I know," she sighs. "The car that hit you...in the accident...was from the government. They were and have been after you ever since. I didn't know why until yesterday when I snuck into Anderson's office. The reason they're after you is your father." I let out a sigh and she looks at me, "He apparently was working against the government and they didn't like what he was doing so they tried to hunt him down for the longest time but never found him....and then they found out that he....had passed away." I knew what she was going to say. She was going to say dead. "When they found that out, you'd think problem solved, right? No. They wanted further revenge and they had to get it so they did some research on him and found that he had a son...you," she pauses. "They've been after you ever since. Dr. Anderson last night...." she pauses again. I know what she wants to say is difficult, "He tried to kill you. I didn't know that's what he was planning...I only knew that he wanted to put you under....I didn't know he was planning on killing you. After I heard you scream, I rushed over to the window to see what was happening and once I saw how much pain you were in, I tried to bust open the door, but it was locked....so I broke the window and took you out of there as fast as I could.....we're safe now."
The government. My father's death. It all makes sense now to why he died, no one ever told me how he died because no one knew why...but I know now. Alicia is an angel. I don't what to say or how to respond to her for going through all the trouble she has just for me. Doing everything she has done so that I could be here.
"You're amazing," I say. "Everything anyone could ever dream of."
Then I slowly lean in and press my lips against hers. They're amazingly soft and her touch is gentle, it makes me glow inside. She kisses me back, this time it's powerful with a message. A message that says don't worry, I'm here.
My life has slowly come to a stop. Not a complete stop but a purpose—one purpose. My job is to now figure out what it is I’m going to do and where I’m going to go. Ask me either of those questions and I’ll tell you I don’t know. What do you do when the government is after you for something you didn’t do? For something you never even knew about.
I’m in a trance thinking about everything that has happened. I’m filled with mixed emotions—it drives me almost to insanity. Alicia is the only person I’ve ever felt like this with and I don’t want it to end. I want to be with her forever.
