Scarlett' POV
Running away from a man you have lived with for the past seven years with little money is not as easy as it seems, especially when you are carrying a bag filled with clothes and a five year old child who keeps asking questions.
I managed to get plane tickets through many risks, doing many jobs and making sure the monster doesn't find out.
"Mum where are we going to I am scared what if daddy finds out" she asks her deep blue eyes gazing at me scared.
One thing i have always regretted in my life was my daughter's blue eyes it reminds me of the monster and life just decided to play a trick on me and made her look just like him it has always been a major setback for me anytime I look at her I see the monster but I love my Grace she has always been there for me even if she is just a little girl.
"Baby,daddy won't find out if you don't tell him"she nods excitedly thinking we are playing a game"
Grace has always been Mason sweetheart since the day she was born,it was a problem at first when he found out that I was having a girl,he was furious but the day he set his eyes on Grace he was captivated,the fact that she looked just like him added to the reasons why he admired her,but when Grace turned four he just snapped,he started hitting her.I did my best to protect her,I made sure I locked her in her room anytime he came home and told her to always remain quiet.
Mason has not always been like that,I met him in a coffee shop and he offered to pay for my coffee after introducing himself to me.
"Mummy" Grace screams in my hear snapping me out of my daydream,she points to an ice cream shop"Let gets ice cream"what she says takes me back to the past and I remember my older brother Levi a tear escapes my eye.
My mum hated Mason from the day I introduced her to Mason she forbidded me from marrying him but I went against her wishes.
"Letty you can't marry him,he is not good for you,please Letty even your brother does not approve of him and you know your brother likes everybody he meets,you will find another man"
"Mum he is the man of my dreams,I love him and you can't stop me from marrying him,I am leaving since you guys don't approve of my choice"
"Scarlett you need to understand,you will find someone but pls not him"she whispered the last word to me
"I am leaving mum"
"If you leave this house you will no longer be my daughter I will disown you,so who will you pick that worthless man or your family?"My brother entered the room at that moment l,he tried to intervene but my mum held up her hand for him to stay out of it.
"Mum"I thought my mum was just overreacting but the way she looked at me was to painful to bear so I left.
I remember that day like it was just yesterday mama warned me but me being the love struck fool that I was I went against my mother's wishes and here I am regretting it.
Levi has always loved ice cream I see a bit of Levi in Grace's character she loved the things Levi loved and hated the things he hated
"Mummy are you even listening to me"she whisper shout in my ear.
"Yes baby I am listening"
"Mummy I think we should get some ice cream for daddy maybe he will play with me if I get ice cream for him"out of fear I say the next thing that comes to my head.
"Grace we are going for a vacation so we probably won't see Daddy for a long time"
I regret it the moment the word comes out from my mouth I did not want Grace to know we were leaving,I wanted to keep it from her till we were safely inside the plane
"Vacation?"she asks curiously
"Yes baby"
My phone starts ringing and I pick it without checking the caller
"Hello"
"Cupcake"I am about to disconnect the call when I hear his next words
"Where are you,your bags are not here are you leaving me if I get my hands on you,you will regret it am going to kill you,shit once am done with you,your face will be unrecognizable,I will find u Letty and once I do you will regret it"I packed some of my things and gave the rest to my neighbor before I left.
"Fuck you"I say before disconnecting the call and throwing the phone in the trash can
"Mummy you said a bad word"Grace says sleepily,I have always taught Grace never to repeat any bad word her father says and anytime I say one she always points it out.
"Sorry" when I don't get a reply,I look at her but she has already fallen asleep
I got to the airport and boarded a plane praying a silent prayer in my mind for Mason to never find us
