Nerf Gun War

(Modern Era)

~

"Didn't think you'd get away that easily did you?"

You stopped walking and sighed deeply. You rolled your shoulders back before you continued to walk down the hallway. A hand was placed on your shoulder roughly causing you to freeze in your spot.

"Where are you going? We haven't even gotten to say hi to you yet," Oscar smiled down at you.

"Can I just get to class please?" You asked as you looked forward, refusing to look at the boys on either side of you.

"There you are! I've been looking for you everywhere," a boy from a few of your classes said as he walked over to you three. "Oh hey Oscar, Morris. I see you know my friend. If you don't mind, I need them to work on a project for history."

Morris removed his from your shoulder and pushed you in the direction of the boy who had spoken to you. The boy then wrapped his arm around your shoulder and the two of you walked to your history class together. Once you got to the classroom door, the boy dropped his arm from your shoulder.

"Thank you for that," you smiled at the boy.

"No problem. I'm Elmer by the way," the boy gave you a big smile.

"I'm Y/N."

The two of you shook hands before walking into the classroom and to your seats. You sat on the opposite side of the room from each other so you went your separate ways. As you sat down, your teacher announced that there was going to be a new seating chart. You grabbed your things and moved with the rest of the class to the back of the room. As your teacher called out names the students moved to their new desks.

"Romeo and Y/N you two will sit here," your teacher said before continuing on with calling out names and pointing to different desks.

The two of you made your way to the desks and sat down. Once he was situated, Romeo turned to you and smiled.

"I saw you walk in with my friend Elmer. How do you two know each other?" Romeo asked as you were straightening out your books and grabbing a pen.

"Oh the Delancey's were giving me a rough time and he came over saying we had a project together that we had to work on. I guess he recognized me from a few classes," you replied before looking back at your teacher who had started talking.

As the weeks went on, you and Romeo continued to talk and occasionally get in trouble for the talking during class. Elmer also continued helping you with getting out of the situations with the Delancey brothers. If the two of you had back to back classes together, he would walk with you to those classes. All in all you've become pretty close with the two. However you had yet to spend any time in their large group of friends. It was a Tuesday meaning you and Romeo were meeting at your locker before you went to get food during lunch.

"Come on! It'll be fun. I'll be there so if they're too much we go somewhere else," Romeo said as he stood next to you at your locker.

"Not yet Romeo. I don't think I'm ready to be around that many people let alone teenage boys," you chuckled as you zipped up your backpack.

"At least think about it. Now let's go before the drive thru line gets too long," Romeo started to walk away from your locker as you followed.

Of course you knew Romeo's friend group. You had at least one of them in every single one of your classes. You saw them when you walked down the hall and Romeo or Elmer would wave at you. You had worked with a few of them before. You knew Race from when he was your lab partner in chemistry and helped you pass one of the labs. You also knew Race from the time that he was paired with Albert for a lab a week later and almost blew up their lab station. You knew of Henry because during potlucks for foreign classes he always brought the best food. To sum it up you knew of most of the group but had never gotten close to them until Elmer and Romeo. You didn't think you could handle that many people at once.

It was a couple weeks later and Romeo invited you over to his house to hang out with him, Elmer and their friend, Smalls, after school on a Friday. You figured it would just be a calm hangout like you normally had so you agreed. Elmer and Smalls went straight to Romeo's house while you and Romeo stopped by your house to drop off your backpack. Once the two of you were walking up the driveway, Romeo decided to remind you about his family.

"Remember what I said. My brothers are complete chaos," Romeo said as he unlocked the door.

You had already realized that this was all a trick to get you to hang out with their large group. Not that you minded much anymore. You figured it would be better to not make a big deal about it since you were going to ask the two about it sometime soon. He let you enter the house first only for you to be shot in the head with a nerf gun bullet.

"We're under attack!" Romeo yelled as he pulled you both into the kitchen.

You both sat on the ground with your backs against the island. Romeo opened the cabinet in between the two of you and pulled out a nerf gun and set it in his lap. He then turned to the other cabinet and looked through it. Romeo looked through all of the cabinets near you two but couldn't find any other nerf guns.

"Okay so here's the plan. Don't hit Elmer, Smalls, Crutchie, Davey, Les, or JoJo. You can through the stuff in this fruit bowl until we find another nerf gun for you," Romeo said as he handed you the fruit bowl on top of the island.

You stared at the different fruits before saying, "Yeah okay."

You took an apple out of the bowl and the two of you stood up from behind the island. You threw the apple at the first person you saw. As the boy turned around, the apple hit him in the forehead and you realized it was Elmer.

"I'm sorry Elm!" You said as he stood stunned for a moment.

"It's okay," Elmer smiled at you before shooting at Albert who had tried to catch you off guard.

"You're too nice," you said as you grabbed another fruit.

"How is he the nice one?" Race yelled as he tried to shoot at you from behind the couch.

"You're literally the one who shot me as soon as I walked through the door," you yelled at Race as you threw a banana at him.

It bounced off of his head and he watched as it landed next to him. Smalls walked behind the boy and shot him with the nerf gun and grabbed Race's. Smalls ran over to you before tossing you the nerf gun and running off again.

"Thank you nerf gun angel!" You yelled to Smalls before making your way around the house as stealthily as you could. Which pretty much means you tripped when you were right behind Finch and he almost stole your nerf gun. That was until he saw that your lip was bleeding from your fall. He helped you up from the ground and the two of you got your lip cleaned up before returning to the others. When you returned you found out that your team won. You were never really told the rules so you just went with what the boys had told you.

"Y/N hurry up! We don't have all day," Mush said as he knocked on your door.

"Yeah, yeah! I'm coming," you laughed as you opened the door and hiked your backpack up your shoulder more.

The two of you jumped into Davey's minivan and you were all on your way to school. After more hangouts like the nerf gun war, you had started feeling more comfortable around the very large group of boys. The Delancey brothers even started leaving alone more often. Not completely but more often than before.

"Are we still getting lunch together today?" You asked Romeo as you finally got settled into your seat.

"You know it," he smiled at you before you were both pulled into a conversation with Buttons.
